    Application

    General information

Generally, all applicants have to bring proof that they are qualified to attend university. In Germany, this can be the Abitur, the Fachabitur, or a Diploma from a University or a Fachhochschule. Additionally, good German language skills are required for direct admission (Language Requirements).
Certain study programmes also require a knowledge of other foreign languages, some international degree courses expect fundamental English language skills (e.g. master courses in Imaging Physics, International Graduate Studies in Chemistry, International Graduate Studies in Mechatronics).

    Educational Requirements

In order to be admitted to the University of Siegen, every applicant must have a secondary school diploma qualifying him or her to study at a university in their homeland and reflecting an adequate knowledge of the subjects he or she wishes to study.
Some foreign secondary school diplomas are also recognized in Germany and are therefore considered equal to the German Abitur.

Students from some other countries must bring proof which consists of a combination of a secondary school diploma and a transcript proving that the applicant has successfully completed one or two years of study at a higher educational institution in the home country. On the DAAD website you can find further information and a link to Anabin, where you can find out whether your diploma is recognized in Germany.

Some applicants are only qualified to study certain subjects in their homeland, therefore they will only be allowed to study those subjects in Germany as well.

If you have completed a university degree in your own country, you might be allowed to study any subject at the University of Siegen.
Please note: Every student who has already completed a first university diploma has to pay special fees when he or she wants to study for a second degree! (starting with the summer semester 2007, every student has to pay the general study fee of €500 per semester)

    Language Requirements

In order to study at the University of Siegen, every applicant is expected to have sufficient language abilities to successfully carry out their studies at the University. Therefore all students are required to bring a proof of their language abilities when applying at the University of Siegen.

All applicants who cannot bring this proof are required to take the obligatory language entrance exam ("DSH ") that is offered by the University of Siegen twice a year.
