General Information
The title PhD is an academic degree granted for independent academic work in a new research field. PhD students work on special research topics under the supervision of a professor and present their results in a written thesis (“Doktorarbeit”). In addition, PhD students have to take an oral examination (“Rigorusum”) in their main subject and related minor subjects. The most important prerequisite for admission as a PhD student is to find a supervisor for the planned doctoral work.
PhD studies in Germany take three to five years. German universities traditionally do not offer PhD programmes with a course schedule. Therefore, in principle, it is possible to apply for a PhD degree in any subject offered by the University of Siegen.
The PhD regulations (“Promotionsordnungen”) which prescribe the rules for PhD studies and the possible combinations for subjects, can be acquired by mail from the appropriate faculty.
Relevant information about the admission as a PHD student and the academic requirements can be found here
