    The conference ”Evolution and the Public” will be held September 3-5, 2009 at the Artur-Woll-Haus of the University of Siegen. Below you will find all necessary information regarding travel and accommodation:

    General Travel Information

    Directions by bus and train

    From Hagen/Essen:

    • Take train (RB91/RE16) to Siegen-Weidenau
    From Gießen/Frankfurt:
    • Take train (RE9/RE99) to Siegen
    From Cologne:
    • Take train (RE9) to Siegen
    From Siegen or Siegen-Weidenau:
    • Take bus L111 (Direction: Universität/Haardter Berg)
    • Get off the at "Am Eichenhang".
    • From the bus stop, a footpath leads directly down to the Artur-Woll-Haus.

    Directions by car

    From Frankfurt/Main:

    • Take A45 to Exit "Siegen"
    • Continue on B54/B62 towards Siegen
    From Cologne:
    • Take A4 towards Olpe
    • Continue on A4/B54 towards Siegen
    From Hagen:
    • Take A45 towards Olpe
    • At the junction ”Olpe-Süd” take A4/B54 towards Siegen
    In all cases:
    • Take B54 to Exit "Siegen-Weidenau" and follow B62 towards "Netphen"
    • At the second traffic light, turn left into "Am Eichenhang"
    • Continue on "Am Eichenhang" and you will find the Artur-Woll-Haus and its parking lot on the left hand side after 300m.

    Traveling by air

    If you travel by air, it is recommended to fly into Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt or Düsseldorf. In all cases, you continue your travel by train. The lowest average travel time would be from Cologne/Bonn (about 1h 40 min). From Frankfurt, it takes between 2h and 2h 30 min. Travelling from Dusseldorf to Siegen takes about 2h 30min.     Upon request, we will reserve your train tickets to and from the airport. In this case, contact us by mail via evolution@geschichte.uni-siegen.de and tell us the desired departure times as well as the station from which you wish to travel. The tickets and an itinerary will be sent to you in time before commencement of travel.

    Traveling by train

    If you travel by train, you can reserve tickets directly to Siegen. You can take long distance trains to Cologne Central Station, Köln Messe/Deutz, Frankfurt/Main Central Station and Hagen Central Station. From there regional trains will take you to Siegen.


    Traveling via Frankfurt Central Station

    Use our train schedules to inform yourself about connections from Frankfurt to Siegen on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 and Thursday, September 3, 2009. All listed routes via Gießen are connected to Frankfurt Central Station. Unless otherwise noted, the same applies to Intercity Express Trains (ICE) via Siegburg/Bonn and Cologne Messe/Deutz. In these cases, Frankfurt Central Station is the stop prior to Frankfurt Airport Long Distance Station. You will learn about the exact departure times when booking your train ticket.


    Traveling via Cologne Central Station or Cologne Messe/Deutz

    Use our train schedules to inform yourself about connections from Cologne to Siegen on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 and Thursday, September 3, 2009. Via Lines R9 and S 12 all listed routes are connected to Cologne Central Station and Cologne Messe/Deutz. In these cases, Cologne Central Station and Cologne Messe Deutz are the stops prior to Troisdorf and Siegburg/Bonn. You will learn about the exact departure times when booking your train ticket.


    Traveling via Hagen Central Station

    How to get to the venue

    Directions to the Artur-Woll-Haus from Siegen Central Station

    • Take bus L111 (Direction: Universität/Haardter Berg)
    • Get off the at "Am Eichenhang"
    • From the bus stop, a footpath leads directly down to the Artur-Woll-Haus
    • At the entrance follow the signs to conference rooms AE-A 102 and AE-A 103

    Accommodation

    Two hotels in Siegen will accommodate conference participants: the Park Hotel in the city center and the Trainotel in the district of Geisweid.


    Park Hotel (Siegen)

    The Best Western Park Hotel is located in the center of Siegen, about 1.5 kilometers away from the railway station and 4.5 kilometers away from the venue. It offers a round the clock check-in desk. The hotel is about 200 meters away from the bus stop "Siegerlandhalle", which is along bus lines L100, L101 and R22 departing from the train station ("Siegen ZOB"). In order to get to the conference venue, take the aforementioned bus lines and get off at "Siegen ZOB", then change to line L111 in the direction of "Haardter Berg/Universität".     Trainotel (Siegen-Geisweid)

    The DAA Trainotel in Siegen-Geisweid is only two and a half kilometers away from the venue. The distance to the train station is five and a half kilometers. The Check-In desk is occupied between 7am-15pm. Outside these hours, you can check in via a terminal at the hotel garage. The hotel is about 150 meters away from the bus stop "Weidenau Kirche", which is along bus lines R10 and R51 departing from the train station ("Siegen ZOB"). In order to get to the conference venue, take the aforementioned bus lines and get off at "Weidenau Bahnhof", then change to line L111 in the direction of "Haardter Berg/Universität".
