Erasmus+ Key Action 107: Mobilities with Partner Countries

erasmus+

Since 2015, Erasmus+ provides opportunities to study, teach and train not only in Erasmus+ Programme countries (Key Action 103). Partner countries outside the EU became eligible for funded mobilities (Key Action 107).

From 2015-2018, the University of Siegen successfully applied for funding in Erasmus+ Key Action 107. Student mobilities for studies as well as staff mobilities for teaching and/or training between University of Siegen and the following universities in Partner countries are eligible for funding:

General information and minimum requirements

The projects approved run from June 2018 to July 2020. For information on previous projects, please have a look at this page.

Higher education insitutions in Programme Countries of the Erasmus+ Programme (i.e. in one of the 28 EU member states or Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the FYR Macedonia or Turkey) are required to hold a valid Erasmus Charta for Higher Education (ECHE). ECHE is granted by the European Commission. The Charta proves that the applicant institution fulfills the requirements for successfully participating in Erasmus+.

ECHE and EPS (European Policy Statement) can be found here:

Higher education institutions from Erasmus+ Partner Countries declared to respect the fundamental principles by having signed the obligatory Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement.

Erasmus+ Student Charta
Rights and duties of students participating in the Erasmus+ Programme are set in the Erasmus+ Student Charta that will be issued to every student before the start of his/her mobility.

The Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Handbook for Participating Organisations provides helpful information for project applicants, coordinators, and actual participants.

Minimum Requirements for Student Mobilities for Studies (SMS)

General remarks:
Within the Erasmus+ Programme, students of all 3 study cycles (i.e. undergraduate, graduate as well as PhD students) are eligible for mobilities for studies:

  • Up to 12 months per study cycle,
  • Mobilities between 3 and 12 months each (multiple mobilities possible).

Special conditions applying to the Erasmus+ Key Action 107 projects between University of Siegen and the Partner universities:
Since Erasmus+ funding by the National Agency DAAD is limited, only a certain number of mobilities can be supported financially (further information on grants see "Funding rate" below). Additionally, see the respective pages for the Partner universities for limitations regarding the number of places.

Requirements for studies abroad (Erasmus+ exchange):

  • Immatriculation at home university,
  • At least one year of studies at home university before starting the mobility,
  • Inter-institutional agreement between home and host university (which is the case for the universities mentioned above).

Application process:

Siegen students intending to apply for an Erasmus+ exchange with one of the Partner universities should submit the following documents:

  1. Filled-in, printed and signed online application form,
  2. CV in English,
  3. Letter of motivation addressing one's intentions for studying at the specific partner university,
  4. Transcript of records (unisono print-out).

Students from Partner universities applying for an Erasmus+ exchange with University of Siegen should do so by...

  1. Formally applying for the Erasmus+ exchange at one's home university (a similar process as mentioned above is advised),
  2. Being nominated by home university's coordinator (until 15 May for winter semester and 15 October for summer semester),
  3. Completeing our online application form (until 15 June for winter semester and 15 November for summer semester),
  4. Emailing the signed form to Mrs. Nathalie Bourin-Budig (incoming students coordinator).

The selection of applicants should be based on credits and marks as well as the applicant's motivation and feasibility of his/ her intended studies abroad (i.e. is his/ her field of study part of the cooperation and does the applicant have a sufficient level of English language).

Please note that late nominations and applications might result in a rejection of the student. We advise students and partner universities to nominate and apply as soon as possible (esp. if students have to apply for visa and housing).

Compulsory documents after being selected for studying abroad:

The Grant agreement form will be send to the students by email separately (completed learning agreement necessary).

Please note: All above mentioned compulsory documents have to be handed in/ sent to us prior to the mobility! Please also consider that reviewing and signing the learning agreement as well as sending by ordinary mail will take some time. Make sure that these documents arrive at the University of Siegen in time!

Changes in the duration of the stay abroad shall be communicated to all parties involved as soon as possible. Students wishing to prolong their studies have to notify all parties at least one month prior to the originally planned end of the mobility.

Compulsory documents at the end/ after the stay abroad:

  • Confirmation of stay,
  • EU online survey (see below),
  • Experience report (Siegen students are asked to use the online form),
  • Transcript of records,
  • Letter of recognition (completed application for course recognition at home university).

Important note:
All participants are required to submit an EU online survey at the end of their mobilities! An automated email will be send by the the European Commission (subject: “Erasmus+ individual participant report request”). Participants should make sure that they receive this email.
The University of Siegen is obliged to reclaim mobility grants if participants fail to comply with the terms set out in the grant agreement!
