Beyond postcolonial theories of science

Workshop mit Dhruv Raina

Reconsidering the conditions under which modern sciences has come to be reconceptualised as an object of metatheoretical reflection and analysis, postcolonial theories of science suggest alternative narratives of their historical and philosophical evolution. These narratives emphasize the situatedness of knowledge and methodological and epistemological pluralism. Perhaps one must ask:
Is science just another form of local culture after all, not so much different from other social practices, connected with specific languages and styles?
This perspective is evidently problematic and the workshop will reflect on why this is so and discuss the possibility of a conjunction of universality and situatedness beyond current postcolonial theories of science.
