The Dual PhD Programme ‘European and Global Studies’ is a joint doctorate programme offered by the Universities of Siegen (Germany) and Lancaster (UK). Participants spend half of their studies (1.5 years) at each of the two universities and are supervised by academic supervisors in Lancaster and Siegen. PhD theses can be written in a variety of areas in the field of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (Political Science, Sociology, History, Linguistics, German/ English/ French and Spanish Studies, European Studies, Media/ Film/ Cultural Studies, Educational Studies, Law, Philosophy, and Religious Studies). All PhD theses need to be written in English and with a thematic focus on 'Europe and Globalisation'.The students are integrated in specialised and active research groups which provide them with an outstanding intellectual environment to support them in proceeding successfully with their individual research project. A double degree is awarded after the successful completion of the programme.
This highly selective dual PhD programme aims to provide young academics with an excellent research and teaching environment as well as the academic standards to be prepared for leading positions in research institutions, international organizations, political foundations, private companies and educational institutions dealing with issues of Europeanization and Globalization.
