The University of Siegen Expands Cooperation with China

Chancellor Ulf Richter signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s Chengdu University of Information Technology.

The University of Siegen’s cooperation with partners in China is deepening and expanding. Within a short time, another high-ranking delegation from the Chengdu University of Information Technology (CUIT), headed by its president Prof. Jiliu Zhou, was now welcomed at the University of Siegen. In the morning the delegation had an appointment with Prof. Dr. Hanna Schramm-Klein, Prorector for Cooperation, International Affairs and Marketing, in addition to talks with professors of the School of Science and Technology, and Chancellor Ulf Richter to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

The initial impetus for this cooperation came from Professor Tao Jiang, who did his doctorate with Professor Klaus-Dieter Kuhnert. He had received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) for five years until 2013. Today, he is vice dean at the CUIT and had prepared the visit with the director of the China bureau of the University of Siegen, Mrs. Rong Xu.

The afternoon was devoted to the research of Professor Kuhnert and his team. The staff and doctoral students of his chair for Real-Time Training Systems (EZLS) presented their different projects at the Arthur-Woll-Haus, initially in short presentations. Afterwards they took a laboratory tour on the Hölderlin campus with demonstrations of moving and flying robots as a final highlight.

Already in June, the cooperation will be continued, when Chancellor Ulf Richter, Rong Xu and Christine Müller, Head of the Department of International Student Affairs, visit the new partner university in Chengdu. During this trip, the first alumni meeting of the University of Siegen in China is planned.
