European Research Council (ERC)The fundamental activity of the ERC is to provide attractive, long-term funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/ high-risk research. Research funded by the ERC is expected to lead to advances at the frontiers of knowledge and to set a clear and inspirational target for frontier research across Europe.
In general there are three different funding schemes:
Starting Grants: Open to researchers between 2 and 7 years after PhD, maximum funding: 1.5 million euros. In exceptional cases additional 0.5 million euros possible.
Consolidator Grants: Open to researchers between 7 and 12 years after PhD, maximum funding: 2.0 million euros. In exceptional cases additional 0.75 million euros possible.
Advanced Grants: Open to established researchers with at least 10 years of significant research achievements, maximum funding: 2.5 million euros. In exceptional cases additional 1.0 million euros possible.
The fourth funding scheme (Proof of Concept) exclusively targets ERC grant holders.
