Funding Programs of the University of Siegen
The University of Siegen supports scientists in the implementation of their research projects through start-up funding, funding for young scientists, the promotion of high-performance researchers, and by rewarding the acquisition of third-party funding. In addition, international networking is supported by a guest professorship program.
Here is an overview of the funding programs of the University of Siegen:
EaSE-2020: Start-up funding for your Horizon 2020 application
The North-Rhine Westphalia Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) and the University of Siegen are together providing 228,000 euros to fund the development of Horizon 2020 proposals by researchers from Siegen in the period from 01 April 2018 to 31 December 2020. These start-up funds can be applied at the Research and Young Scientific Academics Commission (Kommission für Forschung und wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs) or at the Research Support Office (Referat Forschungsförderung) alongside three different funding modules Resubmission (Siegen Seal of Excellence), Coordination and ERC-Starting Grants (StG) and will be awarded based on internal competition. Internal Research Funding (HIFF)
The University of Siegen grants funds for the preparation of third-party funding projects and the support of postdoctoral students in the context of university research funding (HIFF). These can be applied for at the Rectorate for Research and Junior Scientific Staff. The Commission for Research and Junior Scientific Staff examines the applications received at regular meetings and passes those applications which received a positive evaluation on to the rectorate for final decision.
Applications, both in written and in digital form, will be submitted to Isabel Maurer Queipo, consultant of the rector, not later than 10 days before the next meeting of the Commission for Research and Junior Scientific Staff.

After approval of your application and subsequent implementation of your third-party funding project, you will submit a report to the Prorector for Research and Junior Scientific Staff.
The University of Siegen awards prizes for measures to strengthen its profile and the expansion of third-party research. In addition to the goal of systematically promoting and strengthening the research areas and the profile areas, excellent research activities are to be rewarded.
Through the newly established Comenius guest professor program, each school has the opportunity to invite internationally renowned guest scientists to the University of Siegen to distinguish themselves in research and teaching. Stays are promoted for a period of usually 2 to 12 months. Applications can be submitted to the Prorector for Research and Junior Scientific Staff at any time.
Promotions Scholarship of Friends and sponsors of the University of Siegen e.V.
The friends and sponsors of the University of Siegen annually issue a two-year doctoral scholarship for start-up funding, with the expectation of further funding by the working group or advisor. More info here
Transitional Financing of Doctoral or Teaching Candidates
Female doctoral candidates and postgraduate students can apply for transitional funding to complete their Ph.D. or Habilitation Project with the Equal Opportunities Officer at the University of Siegen. More info here
