 (pay category 13 TV-L) 

in part time (50%) is to be filled for 3 years. The successful candidate will participate in the BMBF funded research project "Dynamics of protein solutions at the liquid-liquid phase separation". The duration of employment is governed by the regulations of the German science contract law (“Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz”).

About the project:

The aim of the project is to investigate the dynamics of protein solutions approaching the liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS). Typical time constants of motion shall be measured during the LLPS as well as heterogeneous phenomena such as aging and avalanche shall be quantified. Experiments will be performed using dynamic light scattering and coherent X-rays (XPCS) at modern synchrotron storage rings.

Tasks:

The tasks include

  • performing experiments in the area of protein dynamics
  • constructing a dynamic light scattering setup
  • analysing data and performing model calculations using Matlab or Python
  • using concepts from big data analytics such as machine learning for experiment control

The position is intended to facilitate your academic or artistic qualification, specifically a German doctorate (PhD equivalent). You will have the opportunity within the framework of your tasks.

Employment requirements:

You have

  • a diploma or master’s degree in Physics (or related subjects) with an excellent final mark
  • interest in performing challenging experiments
  • a good background in solid state physics
  • experience in using scientific programming languages (MATLAB, Python or similar).

In addition

  • English language skills
  • the ability to do teamwork in an international scientific collaboration
  • experience with the development of scientific instruments.
