The degree program

Our society today is shot through by technical innovations. One progress is chasing the next and developments keep accelerating. From apps for Smartphones to on-boar computers in cars, to controls in power plants - the disciplines of computer science and electrical engineering ensure smooth, secure and comfortable use of technology everywhere.
Studies of computer science can be divided into the following study areas:

  • Elements and principles of computer science (required)
  • Majors of computer science (required elective block)
  • Focus selection (elective)
  • Hardware and programming internship, specialization internship (required)

The course starts out with the interfaculty lectures on general subjects of computer science and mathematics; afterwards, the major modules and selection of a study focus permit differentiation to match the student's interest. The nine major modules include, for example, computer architectures, software technology, computer graphics, operating systems, etc. Basic knowledge for the subsequent deeper master's degree program will be taught in the scope of focus selection. The following standard study focuses are available: Mathematics, technical computer science, medical computer science, visual computing and software technology. Targets of the training include teaching a sufficient method and basic range for professional work in projects for development of software or digital hardware and reaching social competence. The students are supported very well by professors as mentors during their studies.

Important information

This is also offered as a degree program with integrated practical training (studies + practical work in a company).

Professional perspectives

The profession of a Computer Scientist includes diverse activities involving participation in projects to explore fundamental issues, or to develop, operate and maintain complex systems of information processing. This includes many industries such as Information and communication industry, the media industry, medical technology and health care industry, the manufacturing industry or the automotive and automotive supply industry.

Study organization

Examination regulations/degree plan/module manuals/internship rules

Examination regulations (POs) specify the basic structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and contents to be studied). Students are automatically subject to the current version of their PO when they matriculate for their first subject-related semester. This means that even if the PO changes during their studies, the original version according to which they matriculated will remain valid (provided that the PO does not expire).
The respective degree plan is the recommended example progress of the studies in individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Supplementary provisions and details for any module to be studied can be found in the module manually (e.g. requirements for taking a written test or content-related information on the modules/events, ...).
The internship rules define the conditions under which the required or optional internships must be completed.

We recommend at least looking at the study schedule for your degree program before the lecture time starts, to ensure that you know which modules are intended for the start of your studies.
