The degree program

The four-year B.A. "Social Sciences in Europe" offers stable training in the social sciences. It teaches knowledge on theories, methods and research objects of political science and sociology. A special focus in this degree program is on competitive country and society analysis, Europe, international relationships, transnationality and globalization. The international profile of the program is also based on an integrated academic year at one of the partner universities in Karlstad, Wroclaw and Jyväskylä or, as agreed, also at one of the other universities in more than 15 countries with which we have Erasmus cooperations.

Studienmodelle Fakultät I BachelorStudy structure

The subject bachelor's degree program at the School of Arts and Humanities allows students to combine various major and minor subjects with each other. The following subject combination programs are available:

Social sciences in Europe can only be studied as an advanced Major in the research-oriented subject combination program.

Important Information

The study program includes a year abroad, integrated into the course of study, with full recognition of the achievements and support from the Erasmus + program.

Professional perspectives

In addition to the classical professions of social scientists, the B.A. "Social sciences in Europe" specifically qualifies for the areas in which international and European subjects, intercultural competences and foreign language skills play great roles. Tasks include, among others, research and consulting, intercultural communication, research, assessment, evaluation, publicity and press relations, organization, management, HR management, proofreading and editorial office. Possible employers include institutions of the European Union and international governmental organizations, international and European non-government-organizations, international and European services companies, global agencies and media of international and intercultural communication, international development cooperation organizations, foundations, think tanks, research institutes, political parties and associations.

Successful completion of the degree program qualifies graduates for participation in one-year master study programs. The planned one-year M.A. social sciences in Europe and the University Siegen bears special mention.

Study organization

Examination regulations/degree plan/module manuals/internship rules

Examination regulations (POs) specify the basic structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and contents to be studied). Students are automatically subject to the current version of their PO when they matriculate for their first subject-related semester. This means that even if the PO changes during their studies, the original version according to which they matriculated will remain valid (provided that the PO does not expire).
The respective degree plan is the recommended example progress of the studies in individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Supplementary provisions and details for any module to be studied can be found in the module manually (e.g. requirements for taking a written test or content-related information on the modules/events, ...).
The internship rules define the conditions under which the required or optional internships must be completed.

We recommend at least looking at the study schedule for your degree program before the lecture time starts, to ensure that you know which modules are intended for the start of your studies.
