The degree program
The degree program provides for a specialization in one of eight areas of specialization. The specialization is selected by the student at the time of enrollment. Depending on the chosen specialization, the master's program begins with a section of two or three modules that deepens the knowledge on the fundamentals of mathematics and engineering. The aim of these modules is to bring students with different initial qualifications to a homogeneous level of knowledge. In the next section "Deepening of Engineering Applications" there are the compulsory elective areas "Applied engineering in-depth" and "Applied engineering cross-section", which are assigned to the fields of specialization.
Students set their own areas of specialization in the master's program: Depending on their preference and interest, they choose applied engineering content from extensive catalogs. Attractive specialized laboratories and development projects in small groups serve to deepen and supplement the knowledge in practical application. The industrial internship and the master's thesis with a colloquium are further elements of the degree program.
Admission requirements
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or automotive engineering from the University of Siegen or another comparable course of study of at least three years with a completed bachelor's examination or a comparable final examination with a grade of at least (3.0) is required.
- In order to prove the previous education related to the study program, the previous bachelor study program must largely correspond to the respective bachelor study program of the University of Siegen in the thematic foci and specializations according to the study plan of this study program. The study plan can be found in an annex to the subject examination regulations.
- In addition, a prerequisite for admission to the specialist master's program in mechanical engineering is proof of knowledge of the English language at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or at the level of a TOEFL iBT (Internet-based TOEFL) of at least 87 or an IELTS 6.0. With a German high school graduation “Abitur”, this requirement is already fulfilled.
Important information
Internship
A 6-week industrial internship must be accomplished by the end of the master's degree education. The details are defined by the internship regulations.
Organization of the Degree Program
Subject examination regulations/degree
plans/internship regulations
Subject examination regulations (FPOs) define the basic
structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and
content to be studied). For students, the current version of an
FPO automatically applies when they enroll in the first
subject-related semester. This means that even if the FPO is
changed, the original version enrolled to stays valid (provided
that this FPO does not expire).
Supplementary regulations and detailed information for each
module can be found in the annexes to the subject examination
regulations (e.g. requirements for taking a written examination
or information on the content of the modules/courses, ...).
The respective course of study plan represents the recommended
exemplary course of study in the individual subjects and is
part of an FPO.
The internship regulations define the conditions under which
the mandatory or optional internships must be completed.
Before the start of the lecture period, we recommend you to
have a look at the study plan for your degree program to know
the modules that are scheduled for the start of your
studies.
