In this workshop, you will get to know the core didactic concepts and practices of up-to-date Academic Higher Education in Germany. We will apply these to your current or future classes and look at structured ways of planning a course, lesson and sequence coherently. Our central focus will be how to promote the motivation and active participation of students in their learning process according to the learning outcomes they are meant to demonstrate. For that purpose, our focus points will be the concepts of Constructive Alignment, continuous assessment and evaluation, motivation, feedback, phase orientation & didactic reduction. As pragmatic ways to apply these concepts, we will view and discuss a variety of activating didactic methods, e.g. for reading activities, initiating academic discussions and writing, as well as for evaluating learning outcomes and providing constructive feedback. As examples for promoting students compliance to reach defined learning outcomes, we will discuss ways to initiate effective student presentations and term papers. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to create classrooms that alloly, and be better prepared to do so in English, even when English is not the native language. The workshop will be carried out online, and we will address both teaching in university classrooms, and aspects of online teaching.
