How to Get to the Conference
By Car
Briefly: If you use a satnav or a route planner, please enter the following address:
- street: Oberst-Barrett-Str. 1
- town: 67487 Sankt Martin (Please note that there are several places in Germany with this name. Make sure that your destination has the right postal code (zip code) 67487. Other indicators that you have chosen the right place are keywords like "Rheinland-Pfalz" or "Maikammer" that might, but need not, occur in the context of Sankt Martin on your screen)
Just in case you want some more details:
If you are coming from the North, head towards the Rhine-Neckar-area (Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Mannheim). Depending on from where precisely you come, this works best on the A3, the A 5, the A 61, or the A 66. In all cases, you need to finally reach the A 61.
If you use the A3, change to the A 67 at Mönchhof-Dreieck, stay at the A 67 towards the South (Mannheim) at Darmstädter Kreuz (you might have to change lanes for this), then change to the A 6 at Viernheimer Dreieck (exit 10) towards the
West (Mannheim, Ludwigshafen) and afterwards change to the A 61 at Kreuz
Frankenthal (exit 21) towards the South (Speyer, Karlsruhe).
If you use the A 5, change to the A 67 at Darmstädter Kreuz towards the South (Mannheim), then change to the A 6 at Viernheimer Dreieck (exit 10) towards the West (Mannheim, Ludwigshafen) and afterwards change to the A 61 at Kreuz Frankenthal (exit 21) towards the South (Speyer, Karlsruhe).
If you use the A 66, change to the B 43a at Hanauer Kreuz, then the B 43a merges with the B 45 (keep heading southwards), then change to the A 3 towards the West (Frankfurt am Main, Flughafen), then change to the A5 towards the South (Mannheim) at Frankfurter Kreuz, afterwards change to the A 67 at Darmstädter Kreuz towards the South (Mannheim),
then change to the A 6 at Viernheimer Dreieck (exit 10) towards the West
(Mannheim, Ludwigshafen) and afterwards change to the A 61 at
Kreuz Frankenthal (exit 21) towards the South (Speyer, Karlsruhe).
Following (finally) the A 61, change to the A 65 (NOT the A 650) at Kreuz Mutterstadt (exit 61) towards the South-West (Neustadt), then leave the Autobahn at exit 14 "Edenkoben" towards the West (Maikammer, Edenkoben). In the first roundabout, follow the sign to Edenkoben. Starting from the second roundabout, follow the signs to St. Martin. In St. Martin, cross the village towards Elmstein. A few hundred metres after the end of the village, you will find the access route to the hotel on the right-hand side (note the sign of the hotel there).
If you are coming from the South, head towards Karlsruhe (either on the A 5 or the A 8) and change to the A 65 as follows:
If you use the A 5, leave the Autobahn at Karlsruhe Süd (exit 48) towards the North (Karlsruhe), after approximately 4 km change to another big street towards the left (you will see a tunnel on the right-hand side), follow the road when it merges with the B 10 and follow the road again when it becomes the A 65 at Wörther Kreuz.
If you use the A 8, change to the A 5 at exit 41 towards the North (Mannheim, Frankfurt), change at Karlsruhe Mitte (exit 45) to the road towards the West (Karlsruhe), follow the road when it merges with the B 10 and follow the road again when it becomes the A 65 at Wörther Kreuz.
Following the A 65, leave the Autobahn after a while at exit 14 "Edenkoben" towards the West (Maikammer, Edenkoben). In the first roundabout, follow
the sign to Edenkoben. Starting from the second roundabout, follow the
signs to St. Martin. In St. Martin, cross the village towards Elmstein. A

If you are coming from the West,
either follow the A 6 until Kreuz Frankenthal (exit 21) and change to the A 61 towards the South (Speyer, Karlsruhe). Following the A 61, change to the A 65 at Kreuz Mutterstadt (exit 61) towards the South-West (Neustadt), then
leave the Autobahn at exit 14 "Edenkoben" towards the West (Maikammer, Edenkoben). In the first roundabout, follow

or follow the B 37 from Kaiserslautern via Hochspeyer to Frankenstein, change to the B 39 towards Neustadt, in Neustadt follow the Deutsche Weinstraße towards the South (Maikammer), in Maikammer follow the signs to St. Martin, and cross St. Martin towards Elmstein. At the end of the village, you will find the
access route to the hotel on the right-hand side (note the sign of the
hotel there).
If you are coming from the East, there is no Autobahn which directly comes from the East towards this area. Usually, the best way is to head towards Frankfurt am Main and then to follow the explanations above for the case that you are coming from the North.
However, satnavs or route planners will surely give you more precise descriptions.
By Plane
The largest airport in the neighbourhood is in Frankfurt am Main. You can get there from almost every major international airport in the world. Frankfurt airport has an own railway station. For further details, see below "By Train". Use "Frankfurt(M)Flughafen" as your starting point, if you plan your train trip on the website of the German railway. It takes between 1 1/2 and 2 hours to get from the airport to Maikammer-Kirrweiler (near Sankt Martin) by train, and you have to change twice (in Mannheim and in Neustadt).
A smaller airport in the neighbourhood with essentially less destinations is in Strasbourg/France. From Strasbourg airport, you can take a shuttle train to the railway station, from where you can get to Maikammer-Kirrweiler (near Sankt Martin) within 2 to 3 hours. You have to change once or twice (in Karlsruhe and in the case of some connections also in Landau). For further details, see below "By Train".
By Train
Briefly: You can plan your journey via the website of the German railway. The easiest way is to take a train to Neustadt/Weinstraße and to take a taxi from there (prepare a note with the name and the address of the hotel and give it to the driver, if you do not speak German). The alternative is to take a train to Maikammer-Kirrweiler and to walk the rest, which is a tour of approximately one hour and goes uphill.
Just in case you want some more details:
If you are not familiar with the German railway, please note the following:
- There are fast trains (ICE, IC, and EC) and slow trains (e.g. RB, RE, or S). If your itinerary says that you should take an ICE, IC, or EC to a particular destination, please do so. There might be other trains with the same destination and an earlier departure. However, if it is a slow train calling literally everywhere, then you might arrive an hour later at your destination.
The most important railway junction in the neighbourhood is in Mannheim. The majority of you will have to change there. The railway station is a large (but modern) railway station. Make sure that you have enough time to change your train. The German railway ("Deutsche Bahn") will give you an itinerary, where the platforms (tracks) are already named. If you keep this in mind, you can save time. Nevertheless, check the display on the platform (track), before you enter the train, just in case something has changed.
Coming from Mannheim, you have a lot of direct connections to Neustadt/Weinstraße. This is a smaller railway station.
If you want to continue to Maikammer-Kirrweiler, you have to change in Neustadt/Weinstraße.
The German railway offers the purchase of online tickets. You can book it at home. Then you get a pdf-file, which you will have to print. When you buy the ticket, you will have to declare how you can identify yourself in the train, when you show the printed ticket. This is possible e.g. with a credit card.
