Journeys into the Past: History as a Tourist Attraction in the 19th and 20th Centuries

The conference "Journeys into the Past: History as a Tourist Attraction in the 19th and 20th Centuries" will be held November 6-8, 2014 at the Artur-Woll-Haus of the University of Siegen. Below you will find all necessary information regarding travel and accommodation:

Without guidance system/route planner

You can reach Siegen via motorway A 45 (from Hagen/Dortmund or Frankfurt/Main.) or A 4 (from Cologne).

From Hagen/Dortmund:

• Take the A 45 towards Frankfurt
• At the junction Olpe-Süd take the A 4 (later it becomes the B 54) towards Kreuztal/Siegen-Nord

From Frankfurt/Main:

• Take the A 45 towards Dortmund
• Leave the A 45 at Exit Siegen
• Continue on the B 54/B 62 towards Siegen

From Cologne:

• Take the A 4 towards Olpe
• At the junction Olpe-Süd continue on the A 4 (later it becomes the B 54) towards Kreuztal/Siegen-Nord

In all cases:

• Continue on the B 54 to Exit Siegen-Weidenau and follow the B 62 towards Netphen
• At the second traffic light, turn left into Am Eichenhang
• Continue on Am Eichenhang and you will find the Artur-Woll-Haus and its parking lot on the left hand side after 1000m. The entrance is on the back side of the building.

Travelling by air/train

If you travel by air, it is recommended to fly into Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt/Main or Düsseldorf. In all cases, you continue your travel by train.

• From Düsseldorf (Airport) trains to Siegen leave every hour. Take regional train RE 1 (direction: Aachen) to Cologne Central Station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) and switch into regional train RE 9 (direction: Siegen). Leave the train at Siegen Station. The journey will take about 2h 30min, the ticket will cost 29,30 Euro.

• From Frankfurt/Main (Airport) trains to Siegen leave every two hours. Take suburban train (S-Bahn) S9 (direction: Hanau) to Frankfurt/Main Central Station (Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof) and switch into regional train line 40 (direction: Siegen). Leave the train at Siegen Station. The journey will take about 2h 30min, the ticket will cost 28,80 Euro.

• From Cologne/Bonn (Airport) trains to Siegen leave every hour. Take bus line 161 (direction: Porz Markt) to Porz Station ( Porz Bahnhof) and from there continue travelling with regional train RE 9 (direction: Siegen). Leave the train at Siegen Station. The journey will take about 1h 30min, the ticket will cost 21,50 Euro.

By taxi

You can reach the conference venue as well as your accomodation by taxi. Taxis are available at Siegen Station. The ride will cost approximately between 13,00 and 17,70 Euro.

By bus

From Siegen Station: Take bus line C 111 (direction: Uni (AR) Robert-Schumann-Straße) from platform C (located outside the railway station). The journey will take about 20 minutes and will cost 2,50 Euro. Get off the bus at Am Eichenhang. From the bus stop, a footpath leads directly down to the Artur-Woll-Haus.

From HAUSPATMOS (Accomodation): The bus stop Geisweid Freibad is about 350 meters away from the hotel. Take bus line C 130 (direction: Siegen ZOB). Get off the bus at Weidenau ZOB. From there continue travelling with bus line C 111 (direction: Uni (AR) Robert-Schumann-Straße). The journey will take about 50 minutes and will cost 2,50 Euro. Get off the bus at Am Eichenhang. From the bus stop, a footpath leads directly down to the Artur-Woll-Haus.

Important: Don't take the University Express Line (Uni-Express) UX 1 from Siegen Station ( Siegen ZOB). This bus won't stop near the conference venue.

How to get to HAUSPATMOS (accomodation) by bus

From Siegen Station (Siegen ZOB) take bus C 130 (direction: Wenscht) from platform C (located outside the railway station). Get off the bus at Geisweid Freibad. The journey will take about 30 minutes and will cost 2,50 Euro.
