The degree program

 The degree program offers a well-founded basic historical training in the eras of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and modern times, as well as in the historical subdisciplines. Basic training in the first year of study is followed by more detailed teaching of knowledge in all eras and individual specialization: Compulsory elective modules can be chosen individually and according to interests. Excursions or historical projects teach key qualifications that intensify the subject-specific studies and supplement them with practical elements.

The methodological approach is addressed in all seminars to allow students to develop a well-founded specialist knowledge and interdisciplinary methodological skills by the time they complete their degree. Repeated oral and written work on historical facts provides particularly good training in subject-specific vocabulary and techniques of scientific argumentation. Critical examination of complex issues and different sources also sharpens social, political and historical awareness.

  • An advanced major subject (Concept B)
  • A major subject (concept C and D)
  • A minor subject (concept B and D)

The subject must be combined with at least one other subject.

 

Structure of the degree program

In undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, students can combine various major and minor subjects in a variety of ways.

 

Important information

By the end of the third semester, knowledge of classical Latin at the level of the minor Latinum must be attest when studying the extended core subject and the core subject. Knowledge of two modern foreign languages at level B2 according to CEFR is recommended.

 

Professional perspectives

The degree program qualifies for various professions based on the possibility to define individual areas of special focus and to combine many subjects: Public relations and cultural work at international and national, public and private institutions, e.g. private-sector consultancy agencies, political parties and associations, museums, libraries and archives, institutes for applied social research and education, press, broadcasting and publishing houses, institutions in the IT sector. Additionally, the degree program teaches interdisciplinary key qualifications that are important for professional work in science, business and society.

We recommend that, as a minimum, you take a look at the degree plan of your degree program before the start of the lecture period so that you know which modules are intended for the start of your studies.
