The Study Program

The Master's program International Production Engineering and Management (IPEM) equips graduates with the necessary skills to work with success in an increasingly international environment. A comprehensive understanding of production management as well as factory and logistics planning enables the graduates to plan, build and operate factories.

With their qualifications, IPEM graduates are ideally positioned to master the new and exciting challenges of digital transformation. Intercultural and linguistic competences are trained and international management knowledge is imparted. This opens doors for graduates to increasingly international medium-sized businesses and corporate groups.

The IPEM Master is aimed at Bachelor graduates in engineering and trains future managers of manufacturing companies. The curriculum focuses on the following topics:

  • Production management (40%)
  • Internationalization (40%)
  • Digitization (20%)

In addition, interdisciplinary skills such as presentation techniques and methodological confidence, or independence and team skills are taught. For this purpose, students are confronted with real problems from the industry, which have to be dealt with as group projects. Finally, the students are taught the methodology of scientific work through the Master's thesis based on the format of a journal article, including the corresponding final presentation. Thus, the IPEM Master's program qualifies students not only for a career in manufacturing companies but also for a scientific career.

The curriculum of the IPEM course is rounded off by some exclusive highlights:

  • Cooperation with the Smarten Demonstrationsfabrik Siegen
  • Excursion to France or Spain
  • A mentor and (Germany-) scholarship from industry
  • Opportunity of a real business start-up
  • Close supervision by the Chair of International Production Engineering and Management

Important Information

Internship

No internship planned during the master's course. The individual modules and events are closely interlinked with the industry so that additional practical experience can be gained.

Study Organisation

Examination regulations / study plans / module manuals / internship regulations

Examination regulations (POs) define the basic structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and content to be studied). For students, the current version of a PO automatically applies when registering for the first semester. This means that even if the PO is changed during the course of study, the original version which was current when you registered applies (provided this PO does not expire).
The respective study plan represents the recommended exemplary course of studies in the individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Supplementary regulations and details for each module to be studied can be found in the module handbooks (e.g. requirements for taking a written examination or information on the content of the modules/events, ...).
The internship regulations define the conditions under which the mandatory or optional internships must be completed.

Prior to the lecture period, we recommend that you at least have a look at the study plan of your study program so that you know which modules are planned for the start of the study program.
