The aim of the project Starthelfer [lit. start helpers] is to facilitate the successful integration of students with a refugee and migration background in Siegen and to further qualify them at the University of Siegen in order to enable them to realize their potential through our wide range of study programs. New immigrants will be accompanied within their field of study, and socially and integratively, starting with the preparatory language courses of the University of Siegen and ending with the successful completion of their studies in the various Bachelor and Master programs.

The distinctive feature of this project is that all employees have an escape or migration background themselves, and began a study course at the University of Siegen after successfully completing the language course . Not only do they have the linguistic ability to communicate with newcomers, but they also have a wealth of experience in the day-to-day challenges of successful integration, having already mastered it themselves. As a result, they also serve as role models for other foreigners and have a profound knowledge of the cultural differences and similarities between the culture of origin and Germany.
