Christmas Market on the Campus

The Siegen Christmas Market returns to Schlossplatz this year for the first time after a pause. Thus, the students and employees of the University of Siegen on the campus Unteres Schloss will have a new neighbor until December 23rd.

Christmas is knocking at the door - and that can be taken literally for the students and staff of the "Campus Unteres Schloss". The Siegen Christmas market is being built immediately in front of their seminar and office doors. This year it takes place again on the Schlossplatz before the backdrop of the historic building “Unteres Schloss”. Up until December 23 this means: Christmas lighting, half-timbered houses, a skating rink, as well as bratwurst and mulled wine will be in the immediate vicinity - but at the same time also more hubbub and a different background noise than “normally”.

Time Table and Opening Hours

During the week from 13th November the Christmas market traders start to build up their sales houses. The 300 square meter ice rink in the middle of Schlossplatz and the other infrastructure will also be built. Between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. work may be carried out on the place daily. On Friday, November 24 at 6 pm, the Christmas market will be officially opened by Siegen's mayor Steffen Mues.

From Mondays to Thursdays the stalls are open between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., and the stores are open until 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays all stands are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. On the last day, the 23rd of December, the Christmas market closes at 11 p.m. Throughout the market hours, dealers will deliver their goods by 10 a.m. in the morning.

University Business Continues

The activities on university campus Unteres Schloss continue to run normally during the time of the Christmas market. The only exception: The exterior doors in the A-wing of the castle building will be closed at 6:30 p.m. between 24th November and 23rd December. "We ask all members of the university to understand that it will probably get a little bit more restless on the Schlossplatz in the coming weeks. New Market Attractions

With the return to Schlossplatz, not only the location of the Siegen Christmas Market is changing this year, but the concept is also new: The motto is" Tradition, Custom and Diversity ". At the stands high-quality products are offered: from jewelry to handicrafts to toys. Stand operators can also showcase the manufacture of their products on a craft display. A Christmas bakery will also be held between 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon in a hut opposite the passage to Martinikirche, Monday to Friday. Groups of children will bake cookies there under professional supervision and upon prior registration. Another main attraction is the ice rink. Between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. it can be used exclusively by registered groups.

On-Stage Program

A stage program is also planned for the entertainment of the Christmas market visitors. The main stage is located diagonally in front of the main wing of the Schloss building, on the corner of the Kurländer wing. There will be program on Mondays from 6 p.m. (sound check from about 4 p.m.), Wednesdays to Saturdays from 7 p.m. (sound check from about 5 p.m.). There will be no stage program on Tuesdays.
