Starting immediately, the free cloud storage service “Sciebo” is available for all students and employees of the University of Siegen.
Currently, Sciebo is operated jointly by 28 universities and research institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia and funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The consortium leader is the Center for Information Processing (ZIV) of the WWU Münster. The special feature: in contrast to commercial providers, the data is stored and processed exclusively at university locations in North Rhine-Westphalia (Münster, Bonn, Duisburg-Essen). Thus, the data are specially protected by the strict German data protection law.
College members have 30 GB of free storage space available. Employees can also independently unlock up to 500 GB and request additional data for their work in research and teaching. It is also possible to set up a project box with an increased data volume.
The use of the Campuscloud is possible via computer, tablet or smartphone - so documents can be accessed and synchronized on various devices worldwide. Sciebo can be controlled via a personal user interface ("web interface"), which is available after logging in on the Sciebo homepage. Alternatively, the use of a desktop client is possible, which is available for the common operating systems Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The Sciebo app runs on Android and iOS.
