Registration as International PhD Student
Please note: Registering as a student is only
possible for PhD students who already have a PhD position
and/or supervisor at the University of Siegen.
As a PhD candidate you are able to
register as a student at the University of Siegen. While this
is not mandatory in most faculties, there are a number of
advantages to being enrolled. Once the registration process is
completed, you will receive a student ID and your so-called
Deutschland-Semesterticket. With this online ticket you can use
all public transport (with the exception of the high-speed
trains IC and ICE) in the whole of Germany. A guide on how to
install and activate the Deutschland-Semesterticket can be
found
here. Furthermore, as registered student you can apply for
a room in student accommodation provided by the
Studierendenwerk (please find further information
here) and you will also
receive reduced concession prices at the Mensa
[canteen], the cafeteria, and often for cultural events or
cultural sites.
Before starting the registration process, please fill
out the Welcome Center's contact form (if you have not done so
yet). You can find it
here under "Registration Welcome Center".
In order to enrol as a student, you will need to register on unisono. However, before you start, please read the information below.
Important: The unisono portal is open for the
purpose of registering as a student from February and August
respectively for the following semester. You can find the exact
dates here. This means that you
can already register as a PhD student before
coming to Germany if you will be arriving in during the same
semester.
You will usually need the following documents to register as a
student:
»Certificates: University
Entrance Qualification, Bachelor's, Master's (in German or
English)
» Letter of supervision
from a professor
» Scan of passport
» Proof
of finances
» Confirmation of
Admittance by the PhD Admissions Board (can be submitted until
the end of the first semester)
Further information on the registration process, incl.
a tutorial for Unisono, can be found here.
