Main Focus "Digital Medical Technology"
In rural areas, more than elsewhere, health system professionals face the challenge of compensating infrastructural weaknesses in such a way, that quality and access to healthcare are equivalent to urban areas. In this context, the particular problem areas are the long journeys to care centers with good diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and the lack of general practitioners in the countryside.
Students with a focus on "Digital Medical Technology" will learn how physical mobility can turn digital, allowing simple examinations to be conducted at home as well as by laypersons. At the same time they investigate the possibilities offered by technological progress, to ensure diagnosis and therapy outside of a care center with the same or better quality, for example on an outpatient basis.
The prerequisites for this are, besides the secure understanding of medical basics, competencies in the field of mathematics and digital technology, which are taught in the first three semesters. Building on this, all students of this focus attend at least an internship to gain insight into the medical and administrative routine of a clinic. With the beginning of the increasing specialization in the fourth semester, the students deepen their programming skills and learn methods and concepts of medical image processing. They combine the acquired knowledge to design and implement their own devices under the guidance of a medical technology internship. In preparation for and accompanying the bachelor thesis, the students then have the opportunity to sharpen their own professional profile from a broad selection of computer science events.
The bachelor thesis is deliberately designed in a thematically interdisciplinary way, can be worked on in collaboration with each of the two other main subjects.
