The Care Center of Psychotherapie at the University of Siegen offers psychotherapy in individual and group settings in accord withour guidelines. The methods used cover a large spectrum. Togehter with our therapists you will find our which therapy setting is most beneficail for you: individual therapy, group therapy, or a combination of both.
The outpatient treatment at the Care Center is mostly carried out as individual therapy with a licensed psychological psychotherapist. As a rule, the sessions take place once a week over a longer period of time, with a single session duration of 50 minutes. In case of an acute psychological crisis or where certain therapy interventions are of intensive practice character, individual sessions can be stacked togehter, resulting in sessions longer than 50 minutes, or appointments can be made at a higher frequency rate, i.e. more often than once a week. Towards the end of the therapy, appointments will gradually be scheduled along longer intervals, i.e. less than once a week.
Depending on the objective and indication, specific complaints in the context of mental illness are dealt with in psychotherapy groups that are open or closed to specific topics. In many studies, group therapy has proven to be very effective and, compared to individual therapy, has additional special factors, e.g.
- to recognize that other people have the same or similar problems and therefore feel less alone
- to receive feedback from other participants
- to be able to use special social learning opportunities
- to be able to experience their own skills and competencies
- longer therapeutic time intervals per unit (usually 100 minutes instead of 50 minutes)
