Europe's Spaces of Knowledge
In which way did networking between scientists since the enlightment catalyse processes of European integration?
Was it the emergence of an transborder web of researchers that helped to transcend borders?
And: What can the exploration of the mechanisms which actuated these processes tell us about scientific discourses today? Are there epistemological consequences to be drawn?
The Jean Monnet project "Europe's Spaces of Knowledge: Ideas, Discourses, and Integration of Elites in Science", supported by the European Union, approaches these questions from both a historical and a (social) epistemological perspective, focussing on the development of European scientific networks in biology and chemistry.
