Development of the Quality Management System

Since 2012
  • development of a Quality Management System (QMS), which has been organized integrally from the beginning. The task is a consistent organization of the instruments by the objectives in the different ranges of performanceof the university
In the years 2012 and 2013
  • establishment of structures on faculty and university level. Teaching has been the first step.
Since 2013
  • the faculties are involved intensively in the establishment of the QMS. In the faculties and the centre for teaching (ZLB) there have been gradually established decentralised systems for quality development in the teaching field.
From summer 2013 until April 2014
As of 2014
September 2015
  • approval of the system accreditation. At the same time the university of Siegen participated in the tender procedure of the Accreditation Council concerning the experimentation clause.
In spring 2016
  • the Accreditation Council accepted the proposal for development of a European Quality Audit (EQA) which has been formulated by the university of Siegen together with the university of Bremen and six other European universities and approved the university of Siegen for the experiment. Hereby the university of Siegen is disposing of the same rights as a system accredited university for the period of the experiment.
Since 2017
  • the development of the quality management system is advanced according to the integrated approach. The ranges of performance Research, Governance, Administration are incorporated in the quality management system, additionally to Studies/ Teaching. This fact is represented pictorially in the quality objectives which are discussed, verbalized and decided concluding by the Rectorate for all ranges of performance.
In the year 2017
  • the Governance Board with top-class external members has been established for the range of management for observing the management structures of the university. The Quality Centre Siegen is subject to an audit by external experts of the network Quality Audit of the EQA, accompanied by evalag.
In the year 2018
  • the Senate Committee of Research has developed a fact sheet about the quality management for the frame conditions of research (infrastructure of research) which is discussed currently in the Central Committees of the faculty. Equally the prepared Quality Management Order is adopted by the Senate with wide participation.
In the year 2019
  • Senate Research has developed a concept for the operational implementation of the QM system in the research area. This concept provides for evaluations of larger units (faculty centers, central facilities, etc.) to be carried out using a process controlled by the Siegen Quality Center using a peer review procedure. The "Center for Sensor Systems (ZESS)" was evaluated as a pilot process in Faculty IV in the form of a peer review process.
  • The 1st inspection of the "European Quality Audit" took place on September 11th
In the year 2020
  • the 2nd inspection of the European Quality Audit will take place from 10 - 12 March.
  • December 2020: The German Accreditation Council awards the University of Siegen the seal of system accreditation (subject to the fulfillment of the conditions).
In the year 2021
  • September: fulfillment of the conditions
