The degree program

The master's degree program "industrial engineering" offers more detailed education in the subject and with interdisciplinary specialization in the area of machine technology and comics, based on a preceding relevant Bachelor's degree program. A double qualification in these knowledge areas with strong skills in technical integration is to be achieved. The course prepares for professions that require increased qualifications as an engineer in industrial engineering. It is targeted at training persons to take responsibility in technical and management positions of companies and young scientists.

In addition to the required modules "Measuring and control technology" and "Electrical machines and drives", which are among the indispensable specializations of modern mechanical engineering, the engineering section offers a choice of two technical specialization modules from a larger module catalogue depending on inclination and interest.

In the economics area, the specialist knowledge in business administration is to be considerably expanded as compared to the knowledge from the Bachelor's degree, the knowledge in economics is to be reinforced as compared to the Bachelor's degree and in economic law, a solid basis for solving demanding tasks in the professional world of an industrial engineer is to be laid.

In the integration area, which comprises the largest part of the study results, the students are to further develop their ability to solve problems interdisciplinarily. This is done using a planning project that the students process based on a preparatory lecture in "Project management", if possible in a team.

In the scope of the master's thesis, the students are to document that they are able to independently process a scientific issue and/or task typical for their profession at the latest state of knowledge and with scientific methods within a specified deadline and to appropriately present their findings.

The intended industrial internship in particular is to enable them to apply the theoretical knowledge they acquired in practice.

Admission requirements

1) Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering at the University of Siegen, at least with the grade satisfactory (3.0) or any other technically equivalent degree program of at least three years with a completed Bachelor's exam or an equivalent final examination at least with grade satisfactory (3.0).

To prove educational background referring to the degree program the preceding bachelor's degree program must correspond to at least 70% of the ECTS credits of the respective Bachelor's degree program of the University of Siegen in the subject focuses. The subject catalogues of these Bachelor's study programs can be found in the degree plans that are part of this annex to the examination regulations. Support for calculation of the ratio can be found in the Excel tables:
http://www.mb.uni-siegen.de/pruefungsamt/bewerb/; the printouts of the competed tables must be enclosed with the application.

2) Knowledge of the German language (for foreigners who are not native speakers of German, documented by the German language examination for university access (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang; DSH) or the German as a foreign language test (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache; TestDaF) or equivalent).
The examination regulations relevant at the time shall apply.

Important information

Internship

Proof of at least six weeks of industrial internship that must be completed at the latest when completing the master's degree program. Details are specified in the internship rules.

Study organization

Examination regulations/degree plan/module manuals/internship rules

Examination regulations (POs) specify the basic structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and contents to be studied). Students are automatically subject to the current version of their PO when they matriculate for their first subject-related semester. This means that even if the PO changes during their studies, the original version according to which they matriculated will remain valid (provided that the PO does not expire).
The respective degree plan is the recommended example progress of the studies in individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Supplementary provisions and details for any module to be studied can be found in the module manually (e.g. requirements for taking a written test or content-related information on the modules/events, ...).
The internship rules define the conditions under which the required or optional internships must be completed.

We recommend at least looking at the study schedule for your degree program before the lecture time starts, to ensure that you know which modules are intended for the start of your studies.
