Notice: Call for Proposals - Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships (Joint Research Centre JRC)

The European Union has issued a call for proposals for the programme "Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships" of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the science and knowledge service of the European Commission, in 13 thematic fields.

The 13 thematic fields are:
1. Digital Governance
2. Smart, connected and clean mobility
3. EU Energy Transition
4. Development of methods to monitor progresses, design transformations and identify solutions to achieve SDGs
5. Secure and sustainable supply of raw materials for strategic value chains
6. Artificial intelligence for earth observation
7. Graphic causal models for hybrid threats
8. Resilience of built infrastructure to natural and man-made hazards
9. Health promotion and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
10. Non-power nuclear and radiological technologies to achieve the SDGs 2030 Agenda
11. Synergies of qualitative and quantitative methods for anticipation activities
12. Behavioural insights applied to policy-making
13. Robustness in complex data analysis and statistical modelling

Chairs or groups interested in a doctoral partnership programme implemented jointly with the JRC in one or several of these fields can apply with a short sketch (22,500 characters equalling 4-5 pages) submitted via a mandatory to use online system. All applications will be evaluated and, if successful, a formal agreement between the University of Siegen and the JRC will be negotiated. This will include e. g. the mandatory period (between 12-24 months) a doctoral candidate (or several as negotiated) will spend at one of the JRC institutions (paid by the JRC) as well as the remaining time of the doctorate implemented at the University of Siegen to be financed by the corresponding chair or group. The doctoral candidate(s) to be hired will be chosen by JRC committees from lists of usually 2-5 candidates preselected by the successful chair or group.

Deadline: 3 May 2020 (23:59 CEST) 15 May 2020 (23:59 CEST)

If you need support in filling in sections of the sketch, Peter Stolpp (Research Support Office/Referat Forschungsförderung, peter.stolpp@zv.uni-siegen.de) and Daniel Müller (House of Young Talents, daniel.mueller@uni-siegen.de) can assist you.
