International PhD Reception on 16 December 2021

All international PhD Students and their Supervisors are warmly invited to this year’s PhD Reception on 16 December 2021 at 18:00. Due to the Corona-Pandemic the event will take place online via zoom.

(2 December 2021) The annual reception for all our international PhD students and their PhD supervisors, supported by a grant from the DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, takes place for the fifth time – and for the first time online via Zoom. Professor Holger Schönherr, dean of Faculty IV, will open the reception with a keynote speech on the topic "Where do you think you‘re going, don‘t you know it‘s dark outside ... ?" – Your way towards a Ph.D. and the constant battle with the principles of uncertainty. The reception is intended as an informal get-together across all faculties and chairs, to help everyone to enlarge their network at the university. To ensure that this will also work out online, you can pick up a brown bag with snacks in advance and you will have the opportunity – after the keynote – to exchange ideas with each other and representatives of the service institutions in break-out rooms. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Before the reception, Dr. Nina Fenn (Welcome Center) and Dr. Daniel Müller (House of Young Talents) will speak about the special features of the German science system and provided relevant information on doctoral studies in Germany. The “Unofficial Insider’s Guide to the German Academic System for Incoming and Visiting Researchers” will start at 16:00.
