Registration at the University of Siegen (International Registrar's Office)
After admission to a degree program of your choice, enrollment follows via the online portal unisono.
How do I enroll after I have been admitted?
You enroll for the first time at the University of Siegen in the online portal unisono. Here, it is essential that you get in touch with a German statutory health insurance at the same time in order to obtain a public health care scheme or, alternatively, to apply for an exemption from statutory health care. Participants of the preparatory German course (DSH preparation) are requested to get in touch with a private health care provider in Germany. If you have not obtained your school qualification or university degree in Germany (foreign students), and are enrolling for a German course, specialized studies, or doctorate with a degree in Siegen, please follow this Unisono-Tutorial.
If you are enrolled for one or two semesters as an exchange student (e.g. through the Erasmus + program) at the University of Siegen, but you want to graduate in your country of origin afterwards, please follow this Unisono-Tutorial.
If you are already enrolled in a study-preparatory German course or another study program at the University of Siegen, please use the application form or contact the International Student Registry Office. In this case, a new registration in the online portal unisono is no longer necessary.
Registration on the unisono online portal
If you have applied for the degree program of your choice in the online portal unisono, the result of your application (admission or rejection) can be found in your personal application account in unisono. If you have been admitted to the study program, you can start the enrollment process in your unisono account by clicking on the button "Pre-Enrollment".
If your application has not been made via the online portal unisono (by mail, e-mail or, for Mechatronics, via another portal), you must first register in the online portal to create your personal account. After that you can start your enrollment in your personal account. For more information, please refer to the Unisono-Tutorial
What documents do I have to upload when I enroll?
After successful pre-enrollment, please click "Upload function" in your unisono account.
Use "Select file" to upload all required PDF documents in the respective categories.
» Always use the respectively applicable category for uploading.
» Merge several document pages within one category to one PDF or alternatively create the same category additionally
» After complete upload of all required documents:
• Delete all categories without upload
• Check the "Submit documents" box for the submission of all documents
• Press the "Save" button so that the request can be processed.
• If the documents are uploaded in stages with a time delay, the respective upload can be saved by clicking "Save". Please do not check the "Submit documents" box yet. The application will not yet be processed!
If all required documents have been submitted completely, you will receive a welcome email with important information and the request for payment of the semester fee within the next few days.
If any documents are missing or incorrect, you will be asked by mail to upload the missing or correct documents. This is done as already described above. Tick the "Submit documents" box again.
In individual cases, the International Registrar´s Office can request the submission of certified copies or original documents.
Documents to be uploaded after online pre-enrollment:
The following documents must be uploaded in any case:
» Signed registration form (this will be provided in your account after online pre-enrollment)
Category for uploading in unisono: Registration form, printed out and signed
» Copy of the school/college certificates in officially certified copy and translation into German or English, if applicable, university entrance examination (e.g. SIT, ÖSYM, Vestibular,...).
Category to upload in unsiono: High School certificate (if applicable incl. university entrance examination)
» Passport copy:
Category to upload in unsiono: Copy of passport
» Declaration of financing
Category to upload in unisono: Proof of Financing form, signed (exchange students from one of the partner university of University of Siegen for one or two semesters are exempt from this requirement)
Which documents have to be uploaded depending on the degree program?
Only for Master's programs, doctoral programs and, if applicable, German-language courses (DSH-Preparation):
» Copie of previous academic degrees (e.g. Bachelor's / Master's degree) for enrollments from China and Vietnam also the APS certificate (not for PhD)
Category to upload in unisono: Degree certificate (APS cert. from Chinese/Vietnamese)
If letter of admission is not shown in the application portal unisono:
» Copy of the admission letter
Category to upload in unsiono: Letter of Admission (if not already issued in unisono during the application process)
Just for German-speaking programs:
» Proof of German language skills DSH2 or equivalent
Category to upload in unisono: German Language certificate (DSH2 or equivalent)
German course only:
» Certificate of a German private health insurance for students.
Category to upload in unisono: Proof of adequate health insurance with German health insurance
» For Doctoral programs only: Confirmation of the doctoral committee. If the confirmation is not yet available at the time of enrollment, a confirmation of supervision is sufficient; the confirmation of the doctoral committee must then be submitted by the end of the first semester.
Category to upload in unison: Letter of admission or acceptance letter from supervising professor
Which documents have to be uploaded depending on my past studies??
Only for students who are/were already enrolled at a university in Germany
» Proof of type and duration of previous studies (courses/subjects)
Category to upload in unisono: Transcript of records/German exmatriculation certificate
» If applicable, copies of certificates of degrees already obtained at other universities
Category to upload in unisono: Degree certificate (APS cert. from Chinese/Vietnamese)
» Exmatriculation certificates from all universities attended so far in Germany
Category to upload in unisono: Transcript of records/German exmatriculation certificate
In case of further studies in the same or in a related program of studies:
» Certificate from the previous higher education institution stating that in the relevant degree program or in degree programs in which the same examination or record of achievement is compulsory, no examination provided for in examination regulations and no record of achievement provided for in examination regulations has been definitively failed.
Category to upload in unisono: Clearance certificate only if previously enrolled in Germany in the same study program
Students from other universities (“Zweithörer”):
» Certificate of enrollment for the semester for which enrollment is requested:

What are special features in individual study programs?
Media Studies (B.A.):
» Proof of special previous education or activity (internship etc.) 8-week internship
Category to upload in unisono: Prerequisites specific to the course of study (internship, aptitude test, language certificates)
For architecture only:
» Proof of passing the aptitude test
Category to upload in unisono: Prerequisites specific to the course of study (internship, aptitude test, language certificates)
For teacher training courses
» Only Art and Music: Proof of passing the aptitude test
» Sport (DSHS): Certificate of study from the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln (German Sport University Cologne)
» Spanish: Spanish language skills at Abitur level - proof is provided by the grade in the Abitur certificate.

» Proof of language proficiency in French and English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (if not proven by the baccalaureate certificate).

How to finalize my enrollment?
After enrolling in the online portal unisono, you will receive a welcome e-mail in which you will receive information on how to transfer the semester fee. Due to the large number of enrollments in August/February it may be the case that some welcome e-mails will be sent in September/March. Please transfer the amount immediately, as enrollment can only be completed once your payment has been received by the University of Siegen. Please keep in mind that it may take one to two weeks for a bank transfer from abroad to reach the account of the University of Siegen. Receipt of your transfer will be indicated in your Unisono account. Receipt of your transfer will be indicated in your Unisono account.
Prior to enrollment, befor the start of the semester, you must sign a contract with a German statutory health insurance company or, alternatively, be exempted from statutory health insurance. Please inform the health insurance provider that you intend to study at the University of Siegen. The statutory health insurance company will report this directly to the University of Siegen. German course students (DSH preparation) must obtain proof of a contract with a German private health insurance provider and upload the certificate in the unisono portal. Your enrollment can only be completed after the University of Siegen has received your payment and the notification of the German health insurance!
Student e-mail addresses/ Access to the digitale learing platform "Moodle"
Upon enrollment, all students are assigned a University of Siegen e-mail address by the Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIMT). You can activate it yourself via your personal unisono account. To do so, after logging into unisono, click the button “Studentisches Leben” [Student's Corner] in the top navigation bar and then click “ZIMT-Konto” [ZIMT Account] in the left navigation bar. When you click the link provided there, your student e-mail address will be activated automatically.
The Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIMT) at the University of Siegen offers the possibility to support courses web-based with the learning management system Moodle, this means virtual course rooms can be used to accompany face-to-face teaching. In order to get access to the documents stored by the lecturers in Moodle, you have to activate your student e-mail address or your account at ZIMT once. What happens after enrollment?
From first day in new semester (1st April/1st Ocotber) you can use "Deutschland-Semesterticket" for bus and train in Germany. Therefore you have to dowload the "VWS-Ticket-App". You can find more information about the the ticket and APP here. It is important to activate your ZIMT-Account in order to receive important information to your personal student email-address regarding the ticket.
Additional Informationen
Please check the information on your certificates, and the online portal unisono carefully. Please change errors and future changes yourself in the online portal unisono or notify the International Student Registry Office (registration@zv.uni-siegen.de). After you have moved into your accommodations in Germany, please do not forget to enter your new address in unisono and to write your name on your mailbox. If you have a telephone number in Germany, please also enter it in unisono.
