Accommodation
Finding a place to live is an important matter when moving to a new country. We, therefore, recommend looking for accommodation early enough. The favorite part of town are Siegen center and Siegen-Weidenau. We recommend including the other parts of Siegen in your search: Geisweid, Eiserfeld, Kaan-Marienborn, Achenbach, Trupbach, as well as the cities of Kreuztal and Netphen. As PhD students you have a number of options:
Student Accommodation
Student accommodation is offered by the Studierendenwerk Siegen
[Student Services Organization Siegen], which works in
close cooperation with the University, and some private
providers.
In order to be eligible to live in one of the residence
halls run by the Studierendenwerk, you need to be
below the age of 35 and you will need to enrol as a
student.
The rooms are fully furnished, while bedding and dishes and
cooking items are not included. However, the
Studierendenwerk offers a few starter sets with said items. The
average rent for rooms is between €200 and €300 per month
(more for apartments) and a security deposit of two months'
rent needs to be paid upon moving in. Please find further
information on the different locations and prices here.
The minimum rental period is three months. As rooms at the
Studierendenwerk are in popular demand, there is no
guarantee that your application is successful. For further
questions, please contact Mr Bott.
Privately owned student residences are offered by the
following providers:
»
Livus Seven Homes Apartments, Bürbach
»
Studentenwohnanlage Am Oberen Schloss
»
Open Living House
»
Prime Student Living
Flat shares
Many students in Germany rent rooms in shared houses or
flats, or Wohngemeinschaften[WG]. This is a great
way of keeping living costs low and meeting new people, who
might already know their way around the town and
university.
Often rooms are not furnished, but second-hand furniture is
easy to come by. Sometimes, students who are away for an
internship or an exchange will sublet their furnished
rooms, making them a great place to begin your stay in
Siegen and from where to look for something more permanent.
Generally, costs for electricity, internet, gas/oil are
either directly included in your rent to the landlord or
shared with the other tenants. Prices given on sites often
already include these costs.

flats/houses:

Private Accommodation
If you are looking to rent your own flat, you should pay
particular attention to a few things:
»
Is the flat furnished [möbliert or möbl.]?
»
Does the flat have a kitchen [Einbauküche or EBK]?
»
Which costs are included in the rent indicated?
Search engines include:
