For Students

Interested in gaining practical experience at the University of Siegen as part of a bachelor’s or master’s degree program? The following chart shows whether a traineeship is possible for your sitation,

Please note that stays between 4 and 6 months are not possible. 

Further requirements: 

• Funding: You must provide proof of institutional funding, such as a scholarship (e.g., RISE/WIESE, DAAD, or a foundation). We cannot accept self-funded applicants. 
• Enrollment: You must remain enrolled at your home university for the entire duration of your stay.

Your application will then be forwarded to the relevant chair. 
If you are accepted, you will then need to fill out a "Visiting Student Agreement" (VSA). This must then be signed by you (the student), the department, and the International Office. 

Once all documents are complete, the stay can officially begin. 


An important note on insurance: Please ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage. We recommend combined health, accident, and liability insurance. The website of the Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes(DAAD) you for example provides detailed guidance on the topic of insurance. If you will be working in a lab, we strongly advise purchasing laboratory insurance.
Upon completion, you will receive written documentation of your practical experience.

 

For Departments

Would you like to host international bachelor's and master's students to gain practical experience in your research group in Siegen? Then please read the information below carefully. Since so-called research or summer internships cannot be unpaid, the International Office (IO) and the Human Resources department have developed a legally compliant process for traineeships under the following conditions:

Please note that doctoral candidates cannot be accepted as visiting students. Research stays by doctoral candidates at the University of Siegen must run through a  proper legal framework (i.e. employment at the University of Siegen or scholarship).

Procedure and timeline:

Please allow sufficient time for preparation. Please note the following deadlines for registration with the International Office:

•       At least 4 weeks before the planned stay, for stays of up to a maximum of 12 weeks/90 days.

•       At least 6 months before the planned stay, if international students are to be enrolled for one to a maximum of two semesters.
