Exposure therapy for anxiety disorders: Opportunities and limits of new technologies

Exposure therapy, in which patients with anxiety disorders face anxiety-inducing situations under therapeutic guidance, is the therapy of choice for anxiety disorders. This project, which is currently under construction, deals with the question of whether and under what conditions new technological developments can further optimize the effectiveness of exposure therapy. The potential of technology-supported forms of exposure therapy (e.g. Virtual and Augmented Reality Exposure Therapy, VRET, ARET) to promote the transfer of treatment successes into the everyday life of patients will be critically evaluated. Can new technological developments help to further strengthen the effectiveness of exposure therapy and to better treat patients with anxiety disorders?
