Award Ceremony - Reception - Reading

This year’s Anglistentag will feature the award ceremony for the Journalismus- und Medienpreis. The Anglistenverband awards the prize every three years to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of English-language literatures and cultures in the form of journalism. This year’s award winner is Gina Thomas, London correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Gina Thomas receives the award for her continuous, varied, and thorough reporting, which is marked by a brilliant and witty style.

As an interlude, the award-winning poet and editor of the online literary journal Plant-Human Quaterly Neil Shepard will share his reflection on Poetry & Art – Beyond Human Failure. Neil Shepard has published eight books of poetry, and will read from his newest collection The Book of Failures, which probes the many ways we perceive ourselves to fail in the eyes of others. He will mix verbal and visual media, highlighting his work through photographic and painterly collages.

The final point of the evening will be a reading by the Irish novelist and playwright Lucy Caldwell. She has published four novels, several radio dramas and two collections of short stories. She has received a number of awards, including the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature (2011), the Dylan Thomas Prize for her novel The Meeting Point (2011), the BBC National Short Story Award for the short story “All the People Were Mean and Bad” (Intimacies 2021), and the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction for her most recent novel These Days (2022).
