Invitation to Guest Lecture by Dr. Onur Özsoy (ZAS, Berlin / University of Cologne)
Monday, April 28, 2025, 4-6 PM in room AR-A 1012
Dear all,
The Department of English wishes everyone a good start into the new semester and cordially invites everyone to the following guest lecture:
Dr. phil. Onur Özsoy (Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, Berlin / University of Cologne):
“Null Subjects in Heritage Speakers in Germany and the United States”
on
Monday, April 28, 2025, 4-6 PM in room AR-A 1012
In this talk, Onur will examine subject-drop patterns in heritage speakers of Greek, Russian, and Turkish, focusing on the influence of typologically different (non-)null subject languages. He will explore crosslinguistic effects, register, modality, and the impact of bilingualism on subject expression in heritage languages in Germany and the US. Findings highlight that language status, rather than bilingualism alone, is a key factor shaping subject-drop behavior across populations in Germany and the US.
Organizer: Emine Aşcı (emine.asci@uni-siegen.de)
We look forward to welcoming you to this talk!
All the best,
Emine Aşcı
