Taking advantage of synergies: new cooperation agreement between University of Siegen and the German Federal Employment Centre "Agentur für Arbeit" at Siegen

cooperation agreement (March 3, 2012) A cooperation agreement to ensure transparent career and study orientation programmes was signed on 9 March 2012 by the University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Holger Burckhart and the Head of the Federal Employment Centre at Siegen, Dr. Bettina Wolf.

"University of Siegen plays a special role in our region and local economy. The students we train today will become the much-needed highly qualified employees of tomorrow. To help students successfully complete their studies and start their careers, it is important to offer them effective, transparent guidance and consultancy so they can find a suitable job," emphasised Dr. Bettina Wolf, head of the Federal Employment Centre at Siegen, as she signed the cooperation agreement.

Career and study orientation programmes are becoming increasingly individualised, yet their meaning in terms of society and the economy increases. University of Siegen and the German Federal Employment Centre at Siegen have therefore joined forces to offer a combined orientation and consultancy programme for potential and existing students, graduates and experienced professionals, with a focus on the transition from school to university. "This cooperation agreement underlines our commitment to working in partnership with Siegen's German Federal Employment Centre in the long-term and it takes our relationship to a new level. The German Federal Employment Centre is a valuable partner for us and for our students as they start their studies and their professional careers and it also plays an important role with regard to life-long learning. Their service and consultancy are key to the increasingly important corporate citizenship role of Universities,” states Rector Prof. Dr. Holger Burckhart.

The cooperation agreement is the local implementation of the framework agreement on study orientation cooperation, which was signed by the Federal Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rectors' Conference of universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rectors' Conference of universities in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the North Rhine-Westphalian regional directorate of the Federal Employment Centre. It covers the appointment of contact partners, the joint provision of information and the organisation of events for students. Furthermore, ongoing developments will be shared on a regular basis and consultants from both institutions will benefit from mutual training. "In the light of globalisation, technical advances and demographic trends, knowledge management and career orientation have gained increasing importance. Through this new agreement, we will be able to identify and take advantage of even more synergies from our activities," Rector Prof. Dr. Holger Burckhart and Dr. Wolf explain.
