The University of Siegen Scores in International Comparison
Around 1,700 universities from 96 countries took part in the global U-Multirank university ranking this year. The University of Siegen achieved good and very good results in numerous areas.
The independent university ranking U-Multirank is intended to offer students an international orientation. It compares universities all over the world according to various criteria: the respective research performance is just as much a part of it as teaching is, international orientation, knowledge transfer, and regional commitment. The University of Siegen can be proud of it’s score in the current U-Multirank - it achieves good or even very good results in numerous areas.
Research at University of Siegen was rated “very good” in the areas of third party research funding, the scientific output in the creative field, and the number of postdoctoral positions. Top marks were also achieved in the areas of knowledge transfer, regional commitment and international orientation: The University of Siegen scored well in the number of patents and spin-offs, in research partnerships in the region and in the number of joint international publications.
In numerous other areas, the university achieved "good" grades: In the area of international orientation, for example, the range of foreign-language courses, international doctorates and the number of foreign academic staff were rated as good. According to the ranking, however, there is also room for improvement in individual areas - for example, with regard to adherence to the standard period of study.
In addition to the so-called "Institutional Ranking", which compiles and compares the performance profiles of individual universities, the U-Multirank also re-evaluates individual subjects every year. In 2019, chemistry, mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and electrical engineering were included in the ranking. Here, too, the University of Siegen achieved top results in several areas: The Electrical Engineering degree course made it into the top group a total of six times, while Computer Science and Mathematics each made it into the top group three times. In the category "joint international publications", all Siegen degree programs achieved above-average results: five made it into the top group, two were rated "good".
