Uni Siegen To Elect New Rector

The process has begun to select the replacement for Prof. Holger Burckhart as the head of the University of Siegen administration.

After 14 years as rector at the University of Siegen, the term of office for Prof. Holger Burckhart will come to a close in September 2023. The university has already begun the process for selecting his replacement. The university’s higher education election assembly approved a notice of vacancy on August 17, 2022. It has now been published, inviting applications from external and internal candidates.

A search committee has been formed to pre-vet the applications. It is comprised of three members of the senate and three members of the Board of Governors. From the senate, the members of the search committee are Prof. Martin Herchenröder, Prof. Peter Krebs, and Thomas Wienkamp. For the Board of Governors, these are Arndt G. Kirchhoff, Dagmar Lange, and Prof. Petra Moog. The spokesperson for the search commission is Prof. Martin Herchenröder, with Dagmar Schulze-Lange as his deputy.

Once the official call for applicants has expired, the search committee will review the received applications, conduct interviews with potential candidates, and ultimately make a proposal to the higher education election assembly.

The assembly is comprised of the full senate and Board of Governors of the University of Siegen. Dr. Stephan Habscheid will serve as chair, with Dagmar Schulze-Lange as his deputy.
