Services for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses

According to the 20th Social Survey of the German Student Union, approx. 7% of students at German universities are persons with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses. Nearly half of these students feel that their illness or disability has negatively affected their studies. The University of Siegen considers it an important task to reduce disadvantages for those affected and to enable them to study despite their impaired health.

In addition to individual advancement and support, this includes a compensation for disadvantages which gives students with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses the opportunity to complete a degree program and obtain a corresponding degree despite their impaired health. You can get advice and support from the Officer for Students with Disabilities at the University of Siegen and from the competent persons in the departments. Students and prospective students whose ability to study is restricted due to health issues or disabilities should contact the Officer for Disability Issues first.

The Officer for Disability Issues supports students with severe disabilities and/or chronic illnesses in preparing for their degree program, over the course of the degree program and in examination matters. You can discuss problems regarding the choice of degree program, organizing your studies or obtaining a degree with the Officer for Students with Disabilities and try to find solutions together.

It is advisable to contact the Counseling Center for Students with Disabilities and/or Chronic Illnesses in good time in order to address potential problems with your degree program early on and to start a career.
