Brighton 2023

Gruppenbild_compressed

This years excursion took us to the city of Brighton, a lovely seaside resort in East Sussex, England. From September 2nd to 9th 50 students were granted the opportunity to visit not only Brighton and its surroundings but London too. Not only English students, but also students of all other subjects were welcome to participate.

On our first day in Brighton, we did a small walking tour hosted by two locals. Our lovely guides walked us around the city and taught us about its history as a royal summer retreat and how the term “Shampoo“ comes about (chāmpo means head massage in Hindi). Later that day we visited the Royal Pavillon King George IV’s little Taj Mahal for his weekend getaways.

The next day a group of fierce hikers went on a tour - organised by Thomas La Presti. The trail took us through the beautiful South Downs National Park from Devil's Dike to Ditchling Beacon, which was very exhausting but very much worth it regarding the view we had. In the evening a few students organised a  pub quiz at a local pub.

For many of us, the highlight of the trip was September 5th, when we made a trip to London. We were free to do what we want and also had the opportunity to stay the night, because the next day was the so-called "do what you want day". And most of us indeed wanted to stay in London and discover the vibrant capital some more.

The next day we visited the Isle of Wight and Osbourne House, another humble abode like the Royal Pavillon.

On Friday a few brave students plucked up the courage to go cycling with Thomas La Presti. Others took the time to take pictures for Instagram or take part in a little paper chase. In the evening we had our last meal together and the next morning we got up early and went homeward.

As we return to our academic pursuits, we carry with us the knowledge, experiences, and friendships forged during this remarkable excursion.
