New student card

With the new student card (USiCard), students receive the semester ticket, the student card and the use of the library.

One card, many functions. The University has introduced the "USiCard" for the summer semester 2021. Most of the students (aprox. 15,000) have already received their card via snail mail. The new electronic student card combines the semester ticket for travel within the area of validity and the student ID, which up to now was sent in paper form every semester after the re-registration. The USiCard also allows you to use it as a library card in the University library.

The card – similar to a credit card – will be valid for five years. It does not need to be validated or replaced during this time and is therefore sustainable. The card is not a substitute for an identity card. A photo ID must therefore always be carried in addition in order to identify oneself, for example at an exam or at a passenger check in public transportation.

FAQ

When will I receive my USiCard if I have re-registered late / uploaded my picture late?

Anyone who has fully re-registered after the deadline (March 3, 2021) (with payment, picture upload, proof of KV if applicable) and therefore has not yet received a USiCard will have it sent to the address entered in unisono at the time of full re-registration within a maximum of two weeks from April 1.

Examples: Those who did not re-register until the end of March can expect to receive their USiCard in the mail in either week 14 or week 15. If you did not re-register until Easter week, you can expect to receive your USiCard at the end of week 15.

If you have registered during the above-mentioned periods, please be patient and contact us at usicard@zv.uni-siegen.de at the earliest after the above-mentioned dates if you have not received a USiCard by then.

Where will my USiCard be sent if my address has changed in the past weeks?

Since the beginning of April, USiCards have been sent to the address entered in unisono at the time of re-registration. The time of confirmation is usually 2-5 days (for international transfers up to 10 days) after the bank transfer has been made. If only the image upload in unisono is still outstanding, the confirmation will be sent immediately after the image upload in unisono.

How do I get my USiCard if I am currently unable to enter Germany?

Incoming international first-year students will be contacted by STARTING by mail. As soon as they have an address in Germany, this should be communicated to registration@zv.uni-siegen.de, then the USiCard will be sent to this address. If there is no address in Germany yet, the USiCard will be kept at the International Student Office until the entry has taken place. STARTING will only contact persons who have fully re-registered/enrolled.

Regardless of this, address changes must always be entered into unisono immediately by students themselves (see circular email reminding and instructing address change in unisono sent to student email addresses in November 2020).

If I haven't received my USiCard yet, how long can I use my student certificate to ride buses and trains?

UPDATE: The current rule is that you may ride buses and trains in the Semester/NRW Ticket area of validity with your summer semester study certificate until April 30, 2021. If the student certificate is not accepted on the bus or train, please notify us at usicard@zv.uni-siegen.de.

Why does it say "non-student" when I scan my QR code? Is this a problem or do I need to activate something else there?

This only refers to the European Student Card (ESC) function, which cannot be started for any USiCard at the moment.  The code has nothing to do with the Semester/NRW-Ticket or the library usage. It does not cause a problem when using it in Siegen. Unfortunately, the USiCard cannot be used as an ESC abroad at the moment.

How do I link my USiCard to my UB account?

Information on this can be found at https://www.ub.uni-siegen.de/index.php?id=bibliotheksausweis&L=1. For activation, you must appear in person at one of the open circulation desks with a USiCard and a UB passport or ID card.

However, the library cards issued so far all remain valid, i.e. there is no compelling reason for holders of a previous library card to have the USiCard activated in the library immediately.
