ger

Language for specific purposes differ from the common language and builds on it. Many different professional, technical and specialist areas have their own technical language. Technical Languages are characterized by the use of of certain technical terms and foreign words, the so-called technical vocabulary. This contributes to the the unambiguousness of the technical language, which allows to describe facts precisely and accurately. and precisely. Science, technology, medicine and economy are examples of areas that have a specific technical language.

Course Coordination

Dr. Kristina Seibert

Hello, my name is Kristina Seibert and I come from Westerwald, which is a region in the north of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. I studied "Literary Studies: Literature, Culture, Media" and did my PhD on the construction of regions in German-language regional crime novels. In addition, I completed a continuing education program in teaching German as a foreign language. My special interests are researching creative as well as collaborative writing and, in this context, didactics for writing support in foreign language teaching. Therefore, creative and/or collaborative writing tasks are an integral part of my German teaching.

NRWege ins Studium

As part of the NRWege ins Studium project we offer German language courses for special purpose to students with foreign educational qualifications. In the winter semester 2024/2025, the course Wissenschaftliches Schreiben für DaF-Lernende will take place.

In the seminar, both receptive and productive skills in the area of general academic language are developed. Confident use of general academic language is an important prerequisite for studying. To this aim, working techniques for writing your own academic texts are developed and applied, in addition to working on linguistic structures and the vocabulary of general academic language.

The courses are designed for students studying specific courses who have already passed a DSH, TestDaF, TELC C1 Hochschule or any similar examination.

Since the courses are financed through the NRWege ins Studium project, students with a refugee background have priority in the course admission. Other possible free places are also allocated to students with a comparable level (proof of a placement test or a participation in corresponding courses at the Language Center is required). It is imperative that the participants are willing to fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of the semester with information about their country of origin, the date of entry, residence status, etc.

Forging International Talents - FIT in Siegen

As part of the Forging International Talents - FIT in Siegen project, we offer language courses for special purpose and German intensives courses.

In the winter semester 2024/2025, the course Technisches Deutsch im Studium und Beruf will take place, which is aimed at students from scientific and technical degree courses. The seminar will focus on two areas. One focus is on acquiring, expanding and consolidating specialist vocabulary and language structures for the relevant subject areas. The other focus is on applying what has been newly learned to the presentation and discussion of learning content and/or projects from the student's own subject area.

The course is designed for students who have already reached the B1.1 German level (proof of a placement test or a participation in corresponding courses at the Language Center isrequired).

In the summer term 2025, the course Deutsch im Berufsleben (ab B1.2) will take place, which is aimed to prepare the students for new challenges and communicative situations that come with starting a new job. Both oral and written language actions (e.g. presentations, discussions, customer conversations, emails, protocols, reports) are taken into account. In addition, various intercultural challenges will be discussed.

The course is designed for students who have already reached the B1.1 German level (proof of placement test or participation in corresponding courses at the Language Center).

The courses can be recognised as part of the Employability Pass. Further information can be found here: https://blogs.uni-siegen.de/fit-in-siegen/
