ATHENA Hackathon

Hackathon From Students for Students

From 24 to 28 April 2023, ATHENA European University organises its first online student hackathon. In 2015, the UN has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to be met by 2030. The objective of the hackathon is to develop ideas on how to contribute to the achievement of these Sustainable Development Goals.

The official poster for the event can be found here.

Content:

The goal of this hackathon is to build an application dealing with one of the following Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Good Health and Well-Being
  • Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Students can choose one of these four SDG to work on together with peers. Each team will consist of students from different ATHENA partner universities. Experts on the respective goals will introduce themselves during the first meeting and provide tips on creating business plans and launching a startup. Every team will try to find a solution to a specific challenge related to the SDG by developing a business plan and a web application. The result of your work will be presented on the last day. As a prize for the best prototype, the organising committee will award a sponsorship to further develop this idea.

Calendar:

  1. Register for the Hackathon until 7 April 2023. Rank the SDG from 1 to 4 according to your preferences.
  2. The first online meeting takes place on 24 April 2023. There, you will meet your teams as well as experts on the four SDG.
  3. In your teams, you work on your prototype until 28 April 2023.
  4. Each team presents its prototype/application on 28 April 2023.

Information and support:

Hackathon is a fusion of the two words "hacking" and "marathon". Different people from different backgrounds get together and work on a specific problem or challenge, trying to find a solution to it in a short period of time. It is a great opportunity to share and expand your own knowledge and get in contact with international students.

This hackathon will be held online only. Students from all disciplines are invited to participate. However, programming skills as well as economic knowledge are desired.

Participation is voluntary. Therefore, no ECTS will be awarded. Upon completion, students will receive a confirmation of participation.
