The degree program

The Master's degree program "Entrepreneurship and SME Management" is a consecutive full-time study program.

99 % of all companies in Germany are medium-sized enterprises. They employ nearly two thirds of all employees and more than 80% of all trainees. The share of medium-sized enterprises in the gross value creation is approx. 50%. In order to be able to act successfully in increasingly complex business environments, medium-sized enterprises require outstandingly trained graduates who are able to cover the business-administration tasks as completely as possible and to cooperate across disciplines, e.g. with technically trained employees. At the same time, medium-sized enterprises must be provided with entrepreneurially trained employees who will be able to either found their own companies as future entrepreneurs, or continue to manage existing ones as qualified corporate successors.

The offered Master's degree program "Entrepreneurship and SME Management" is therefore targeted at offering students well-founded scientific training as well as method and fact knowledge with which they can successfully work in medium-sized business.
This Master's degree program reacts to the changed requirements of the labour market by teaching the following knowledge and skills:

  • Methodical basic knowledge and supplementary knowledge for management of small and medium-sized enterprises – Elements and principles and Complements of SME Management
  • Knowledge of the different life cycle phases of companies – SME Life Cycle (corporate founding, corporate development, corporate growth and corporate succession)
  • Reinforcing insights into management of small and medium-sized enterprises – SME Management
  • Knowledge on freely selectable contents for individual specialization
  • Skills for independent, methodical and scientific work for a chosen, current subject with reference to medium-sized enterprises
  • Skills for intense dealing with and project-related preparation of tasks of SME management
  • Skills for creation of a Master's thesis that leads to completion of the Master's degree program.

Study organization

Examination regulations/degree plan/module manuals/internship rules

Examination regulations (POs) specify the basic structures of a degree program (e.g. admission requirements and contents to be studied). Students are automatically subject to the current version of their PO when they matriculate for their first subject-related semester. This means that even if the PO changes during their studies, the original version according to which they matriculated will remain valid (provided that the PO does not expire).
The respective degree plan is the recommended example progress of the studies in individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Supplementary provisions and details for any module to be studied can be found in the module manually (e.g. requirements for taking a written test or content-related information on the modules/events, ...).
The internship rules define the conditions under which the required or optional internships must be completed.

We recommend at least looking at the study schedule for your degree program before the lecture time starts, to ensure that you know which modules are intended for the start of your studies.
