Since March 2020, the University of Siegen had made the triple sports hall at Haardter Berg available to the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein as a "corona diagnosis center". As announced, the district had looked around for an alternative for the winter semester 2020/21 to enable the university to use the sports hall for sports activities again. From Monday, October 12, 2020, the tests will be carried out on behalf of the district health office in premises at Ziegelwerkstraße 30 in the immediate vicinity of the district hall.
"I would like to express my sincere thanks to Rector Prof. Dr. Holger Burckhart, Chancellor Ulf Richter and their team for their uncomplicated and energetic support," emphasizes District Administrator Andreas Müller: "The premises in the changing area of the university gymnasium were ideal for us. And we were able to use them virtually overnight. That was an extraordinary stroke of luck in the situation at the beginning of the pandemic. That's why we are very grateful to the university for making it possible for us to start testing at Haardter Berg on March 16th after only a few days of preparation.
Since then, more than 8,000 people have been given smear tests at the Corona Diagnostic Center - initially with the support of staff from the local clinics, the Occupational Medicine Center (AMZ) and the Medical Service of the Health Insurance Companies (MDK). In the meantime, however, the district health department has started to carry out the tests with its own doctors and medical staff as well as rescue workers from the DRK.
