Kreisgesundheitsamt, Rettungsdienst und Krankenhäuser in Siegen-Wittgenstein haben sich auf ein mögliches Auftreten des Coronavirus vorbereitet. Zentrale Anlaufstelle für Patientinnen und Patienten mit einem Verdacht auf Infizierung mit dem neuen Grippevirus ist das Kreisklinikum in Siegen-Weidenau.

Help and support

In Siegen-Wittgenstein, there are various offers and initiatives to help people in the current corona crisis simply and unbureaucratically. Those seeking help and citizens who would like to offer their support can contact the following:

Temporary funding for students by the BMBF

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provides transitional aid for students in pandemic emergency situations. This consists of two elements: the KfW student loan and grants distributed by the student unions ("Studierendenwerke").

1) KfW Student Loan

Students can register from May 8th at the KfW a loan without interest until March 31th, 2021 Apply for a loan. For students from EU Member States that have been less than three years permanently in Germany as well as for students from third countries, this shall apply from June 1st, 2020. For this purpose the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) until 31. March 2021 the interest for KfW Student Loans, which until then of the payout phase. After that the interest rate then applicable from the students themselves. 2.) Grants

From Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, students can apply online for bridging assistance from their student union or student services organization. This does not have to be paid back. The grant is the second safety net of the bridging assistance provided by the Federal Government for students. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has provided 100 million euros for this purpose.
Students can apply for up to 500 euros each for the months of June, July, August and September 2020. The applications will be checked and processed on site at the student and student services organisations. The Studentenwerk Siegen is responsible for students at the University of Siegen.

Siegen helps students

The project "Siegen helps students" is a crowdfunding campaign for students from Siegen who have got into financial difficulties through no fault of their own due to the Corona pandemic. They can apply for a one-off bridging financing of up to 450 euros each, which does not have to be repaid. The project was initiated by the University of Siegen, the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the University and the AStA. It is mainly supported by members of the university. They are called upon to support the project with donations.

CoronabeSIEGEN

is a point of contact of the city of Siegen to bring together volunteers and people seeking help. Using a form that can be filled out, help can be offered or requested in an uncomplicated way - from shopping to driving services, errands to walking the dog. At the same time, the city offers a sample form "Neighborhood Help: Notice board", which can be postet in apartment buildings, for example, in order to organize help from door to door among direct neighbours.

is an initiative of the district Siegen-Wittgenstein, that provides support in the various situations in life. In addition to shopping and errands, medical and nursing teams of the DRK (German Red Cross) and Malteser Hilfsdienst can also be arranged to come to elderly people who are in quarantine, for example. For psychological support, staff members of the crisis intervention team of the emergency pastoral care and the psychosocial support team are available.

Anyone wishing to make use of assistance should contact the district's Corona information hotline on 0271 333-1120 (Monday to Friday 8:00 to 20:00, Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 to 13:00). Volunteers who would like to offer everyday support can register in the district's online service portal.

SoliNa („Solidarität und Nachbarschaft“ / Solidarity and neighborhood) Siegerland

is a private initiative from helpful people in the Siegerland. The needy and people at risk can receive unbureaucratic and free support in shopping, errands or the procurement of medicines.

Aid Initiative Netphen

is an initiative of the local residents in Netphen. The initiative is about building a network of helpers for food shopping, collection of prescriptions etc., but also to help those in need, for example to care for relatives of risk groups or self-employed persons who fear for their professional existence. Furthermore, the initiative wants to enable solidarity, working on solutions for various problems in a large network. The initiative is looking for helpers, who want to join the network - with expertise, time or in the form of donations.

University x Corona

is a non-profit challenge from ekipa together with StudySmarter. "University x Corona" gives students the opportunity to contribute and to influence university life in times of Corona. At the framework of the Challenge, approaches and concepts for universties and colleges facing the current situation can be devleoped. Via the platform, students can participate in the Challenge and either individually or jointly in a virtual teams, creating solutions for societal challenges.
