Semester and Semester Fee
Lecture Period and Lecture-Free Period
The academic year starts in October and consists of two semesters. Each semester includes a lecture period and a lecture-free period. Courses take place during lecture period, exams are usually held during lecture-free period.

Students of the University of Siegen receive their student ID and the semester ticket after their in-person registration. The costs for the semester ticket are included in the semester fee.
The semester ticket is valid for one semester. Once you re-register for the following semester by paying the semester fee, you receive a new semester ticket.
During the semester the semester ticket can be used in Siegen and in the entire federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia for city buses and regional buses, lightrail and suburban trains as well as underground trains, regional trains (RB) and regional express trains (RE). Long-distance buses, InterCity trains (IC) and InterCityExpress trains (ICE) are not included. On the AStA website you will find further information on the area of validity.
Please note that the semester ticket is only valid upon presentation of an identity card or passport and student ID! The ticket must also not be laminated.
