Study of Sociology with Political Science and Philosophy as minor subjects at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main (1982-89), also achieved doctoral (1996) and postdoctoral degree (2004) there.

After completing studies work as freelancer at the PM&P Market Research and Consulting GmbH, Frankfurt am Main (1990-91). Afterwards employed at the Department "Social Work and Social Politics" at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), last position as lector. Teaching assignments at various Swiss universities and at the University of Zurich.

Employed at the University of Siegen since 2006.
