On the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2022, the University of Siegen in cooperation with the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen (MGKSiegen) has initiated the artists program ‘Artist in Residence Siegen’. The program brings together science, art and the public and visibly reflects the significance of urban development in Siegen.

ProBeSt – Projekt for a better Study Offer

Within the framework of ProBeSt, the courses offered by the University of Siegen are to be made more attractive. In particular, the goals are to give students more freedom concerning the individual design of their studies, to create greater transparency for students and lecturers, and to simplify administration.

Pre-study Advice for Fugitives

Since January 2017, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been supporting fugitives in the preparatory German language course as part of the "NRWege ins Studium" program. Since April 2016, the Department of German as a Foreign Language has been offering the "Vorstudium für Geflüchtete" as a comprehensive program consisting of an intensive German language course with the aim of completing the German Language Examination for University Admission (DSH), preparatory courses and study counselling specifically for fugitives. Now located in the new STARTING department, the preliminary studies for fugitives can be extended until the end of 2019.

Study Bridges

"Brücken ins Studium" (BisS) offers a study orientation program for pupils as well as graduates. Here, all courses of study at the University of Siegen can be explored. "Brücken ins Studium" (BisS) is divided into the project part "BisS@school", in which our coordinator specifically shows pupils from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds the possibility of studying and accompanies them on their way to university. The "Pre-Study" part of the project is aimed at all graduates who have already completed their schooling. This comprehensive offer is (still) unique in NRW.

QVM - Means of Quality Improvement

Quality Improvement Funds (QVM), which are provided to the University of Siegen by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, are used to finance personnel to improve the supervision ratio between full-time teaching staff and students, as well as a wide variety of projects that improve teaching and/or study conditions.

Health Management

Proposals are being developed on how an improved and target-group specific perception of health management can be achieved. Existing offers are evaluated and continued after positive evaluation. The project group then develops the cornerstones of a health management system for the University of Siegen. In this step, all health-oriented offers are summarized. On the basis of the recommendations of the project group, the university management then decides on the final form, the health management of the University of Siegen should take.

One University - One Book | The University of Siegen – Basic Constitutional Law

In the summer semester of 2017, a book was the focus of attention at the University of Siegen: the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany. As the basis of German democracy, the Basic Law is one of the most important books for our society - yet very few of us have read it. That is why the Basic Law has been a subject of reading and discussion in the university, in the city and in the region through a multitude of activities and events.
