Public release of the InSign project results 

(December 2022) The InSign project partners are happy to announce the release of the InSign project results to the hearing and deaf communities. 

  • An automatic translator from several European languages to International Sign being represented by a 3D avatar
  • A certified course on International Sign and a MOOC addressed to the deaf and non-deaf that want to learn a simple sign language
  • An e-book published in five European languages describing the main aspects of IS as a globalized lingua franca

(December 2022) The International Sign Teaser Event held in Cyprus on the 9th of December 2022 was a success! Dr. Gregory Makrides and Ms. Panayiota Themistokleous, our Cypriot Sign Language interpreter, presented the InSign project, its objectives and results.

 Heraklion ME Event

 

InSign Multiplier Event, Heraklion, Greece

(December 2022) The multiplier event of InSign was held with great success at the Hellenic Mediterranean University. More than 50 participants attended the presentation of Prof. George Papadourakis and Dr. Kostas Karampidis about the results of the project and were informed about International Sign.

The event is organised by ATHENA European University and the University of Siegen and aims to raise awareness of the InSign project results and how International sign opens the doors of internationalization and globalization to young deaf students.

(December 2022) Ms. Bäumer and Mr. Gamal present the InSign project's aims and outcomes to the hearing and deaf communities on the day of inclusion at the University of Siegen, Germany. The event is organised by the Inclusion service office at the University of Siegen.

   

 

Meeting Porto

 

InSign Meeting, Portugal

(October 2022) The InSign partners met in Porto, Portugal to discuss the dissemination plan of the InSign project results to the local communities in the partner countries.

(October 2022) Mr. Gamal project's the InSign project aims and outcomes to the hearing and deaf communities in Porto, Portugal. The event is organised by ATHENA European University and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and aims to raise awareness of the recent results related to assistive technologies and discuss the potential of assistive technologies.

InSign staff training in Heraklion, Greece

(April 2022) The staff training sessions in Heraklion, Greece have been successfully completed in a a face-to-face format. In these sessions, the Hellenic Mediterranean University staff, students and stakeholders were trained on the generation of the translation models and the setup and usage of the VirtualSign Translator to extend sign vocabularies.

In these sessions, the University of Siegen staff, students and stakeholders were trained on the generation of the translation models and the setup and usage of the VirtualSign Translator to extend sign vocabularies.

InSign Project Meeting in Maribor, Slovenia

(March 2022) In two days meeting, the InSign partners met in Maribor, Slovenia to discuss the current standing of the project activities, deliverables and to debate any faced difficulties. The main focus of the meeting was the review and adaption of the International Sign course, vocabulary list, and Moodle course structure and design.

 
   
TechWhiz

University of Siegen and the InSign partners started new cooperation under Erasmus+

(January 2022) The new TechWhiz project aims to assist deaf students gaining access to education in their first language thus enhancing their learning experience. The core outcome of the project is TechWhizDictionary. It is an online semi-automatic platform to​ create and maintain glossaries of technical terms in any scientific fields through online co-creation. The explanations of technical and scientific terms are provided in five European sign languages. For more information about the project please visit our website.

InSign Project Meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus

(November 2021) In two days meeting, the InSign partners met in Nicosia, Cyprus to discuss the current standing of the project activities, deliverables and to debate any faced difficulties.  The face-to-face meeting comes after a series of virtual meetings due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the consequent measures taken at the national and European levels.

(November 2021) (English) In the ERACON 2021 conference, the InSign partners presented a compartive analysis of the survey made in the partners' countries aiming to inform the research community about the common challenges and perception of the communication abilities of deaf people.
